Fucking Cat 1 bullshit storm anyway.

Woke up to find that Fay had missed me in the night. Schools are closed anyway and a lot of people didn't go to work today so it is like a Sunday out on the road.

We took the baby down to a local park and let her discover slides for the first time. She had a blast, much more so that her mother and I who found our butts were too big for the plastic slides and walked away with bruised hips.

I found out that a friend of mine who I had lost touch with over the past few years and his wife are splitting up. I posted a pic of him here before that Bravus might remember, big guy, lots of tatts. He had been having a problem with heroin and had nearly died last year from an infection. At that time his wife told him to keep clean or she was gone. I can only assume that her leaving means that he is using again. Depressing, out of the extended group of married friends that made our once tight knit little group we are running about a 90% divorce rate right now. No wonder my attitude about marriage is not really positive.

Ran into an old friend a couple of weeks ago that I hadn't really seen in years. Used to be a cute girl I remember going to her two year olds birthday party. That kid turns 14 this year.

Shit that made me feel old.

Anyway I was trying to remember why I stopped hanging out with this girl. Then I remembered when her boyfriend showed up for work with a black eye. Apparently he wouldn't let her go out drinking at 7am to a bottle club with two guys and a borrowed car when she was already blind drunk. She claims he attacked her but his black and swollen eye said different.

Anyway my probs seem tame by comparison. I don't know if this is normal but all I want is my ex, who I have to see on a semi regualr basis socially, and my new girlfriend not to be nasty with each other. I don't want them to be friends just a simple "Hi" will do. Rather than the current status where they glare at each other and gossip hatefully to other people. The new girl is better about it but the ex claims that it isn't normal for her to like the girl and she is supposed to hate her.

Is that normal? Really?

The gunfire around us makes it hard to hear. But the human voice is different from other sounds. It can be heard over noises that bury everything else. Even when it's not shouting. Even when it's just a whisper. Even the lowest whisper can be heard - -over armies... when it's telling the truth.

I've been married for 27 years now and will stay married until I die. Here's me and my wife's secret:

Stay away from each other.

Now, neither me nor my wife drink or do drugs. People who drink a lot and/or do drugs (other than pot -- I don't use it but I can't see it causing a divorce) probably won't stay married. They probably shouldn't stay married.

But if people stay sober and stay the hell away from each other as much as possible, there's ya a successful marriage.

I have to think the drinking thing has some merit. I quit drinking although my wife was constantly hammered. It was a real big issue with us. Of course she was drinking because she was miserable with me, but that is another issue altogether.

Obviously you have considered that she may just murder you?

Just another good reason to stay the hell away from her.

Totally normal. No one wants to feel like she is being replaced with a better model and your new girl doesn't want to feel like she's the poor-man's version of your ex. Plus, if your ex ever hurt you in anyway (which is likely because no one escapes relationships unscathed), your new girl will take up to bat for you because she either loves you or hates that you were hurt.

In the end, time will most likely take care of stuff. You just have to keep reminding your new girl that she's special and remind yourself that you want the best for your ex, even if you don't. It's better to wish good for people than to wish them harm.

Thanks Meru,

I guess this is on topic too.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/08/15/o.cant.we.be.friends/index.html

I guess it took me a long time to be comfortable being friends with my ex-wife. Now I look forward to seeing her (and am thankful she has a new guy to absorb all the crazy bits).

I just charged up my bank account with the remnants of a 401k plan I spent ten years in a shitty job to accumulate. That will carry me through the completion of my degree.

Shit I guess this means I really have to start studying for my GREs?

Wanderer and I were just in this restaurant and this lady kept staring at me. She was in her 40s, sitting there with her husband and child and she wouldn't stop staring at me. Perhaps it weirded her out to see an interracial couple or something, but she was staring hard.

So I stared right back on my way out.

I never got a lot of flack for the interracial thing to my face. We did notice some staring at times but it is hard to tell if it was due to the racial factor or just to people being ... people I guess.

I would tell you not to attribute something to racism that might simply be weariness or distraction.

Maybe they were whispering to themselves:

"Is that that Pallidust chick?"
"I dunno it kind of looks like her, but I thought she was from the USA."
"Her MySpace page says she lives in Brugge."
"I don't think it is; her tits aren't hanging out."
"Oh ya, everyone knows that all female musicians from the USA have their tits hanging out."
"Too bad. How's your haggis?"
"Not bad thanks, care for a bite?"

I would pay more attention if they were.

No I meant maybe she was thinking about something unrelated to the present.

I don't know what she could have been thinking of; the light bill, third world debt, if Furbies will make a comeback this Christmas. Assuming its racism is a dark path to take right off the bat though.

At lets be honest there is a 50/50 chance she was thinking about your boobs.

I mean a middle aged woman in Belgium? I hear those girls are crazy anyway. Like Lindsay Lohan on three days of dexedrine and wild turkey.

Walloon Child: “Mommy, I think that’s Lucy Liu, over there with Ewan McGregor”

Middle-aged “Walloon” Mom: “Hush, sweetheart. It is impolite to stare at film stars.”

Middle-aged “Walloon” Dad: “Do you think that’s Lucy Liu and Ewan McGregor?”

Middle-aged “Walloon” Mom: “No. Her tits aren’t hanging out like an American celeberity. I think that’s Jun Ji-hyun, and Obiwan Kenobe.”

Yeah, maybe she was just nuts.

I get stares ALL the time. It just weirds me out and makes me aggressive.
