Problem is HR dept people want a 2 or 3 sheet CV... If you are senior it is hard to shrink everything to fit in this space.

That's not fair because they force you to level your presentation to the level of much less skilled people.

We had video and stuff, so we managed to salvage the session OK. Gained a certain amount of notoriety as a result of it all, too; probably no bad thing.

It was a crazy week though. I ended up acting as interpreter for the rest of the group, which is kind of bizarre considering how crap my German is.

best,
Chris H

your trip sounds interesting though!

In Berlin I'd imagine many have a basic familiarity with English too, so bad German and bad English can be used effectively together to produce a language.

I am going today to break into my old house. It goes to auction Monday and I don't have a key anymore so I have to get in and remove some things I think I can sell.

I would take all the appliances if I had a space to store them.

I have talked to my neighbor and let him know what I am doing but just in case another neighbor calls the police and things go bad I am writing a couple of numbers on my hand. They don't let you use your cell phone in county and and I don't remember any phone numbers anymore.

Gorgeous weather here today, and the plasterer had cancelled, so we decided to make most of weather, and headed off to our usual good weather haunt of kew gardens. Got there and realised its London Open House weekend, so went to the herbarium at Kew which has some great staircases.. then wandered to their kind of 18th century herbal remedy garden and laughed at alot of the descriptions, while I took photos too. Been nice Smile

(sigh)
Can't really say more than that, but none of my own stuff was nicked and supportive tweets from a number of folk here helped keep me chipper throughout. Thanks folks.

And Berlin? Wowzers. Amazing place. Got taken round the Reichstag on Wednesday, then spent yesterday afternoon walking from the Kurfurstendamm to the Hauptbahnhof and then back to Potsdamer Platz via just about everything interesting we could find. My colleagues were mocking me for taking so many pictures , but I'll put the half-decent ones on Flickr. There should be a few out of the 450 I ended up taking...

best,
Chris H

Hasa, while I was there I was kicking myself for not getting your email address or something beforehand! I thought we'd be on one of those heavily "managed" trips given the folks I was with ('nuff said) and for a lot of the time we were, but on the Friday we ended up having the best part of a day to ourselves. It would have been really good to meet up. I will definitely arrange something next time.

best,
Chris H

So was able to break into my house today. After futiley chipping away at teh front door I was forced to admit failure. However I was able to get in the back door. After gathering a car full of items that I plan on selling I think I am going to get a truck tomorrow and see how many appliances I can swipe load up. I wonder if I can pull up the flooring and sell that too?

I tried to get the ac unit sold but they have moved to a different type of system now so you can't install mine in another house.

My buddy called today who I have been worried about. He had a problem with dope and was clean but I have heard lately that he has relapsed. He wants to hang out tonight and I want to make the effort to see him if he is clean.

Just caught up on this thread. Jeeze. I school is kicking my ass, but all my organs are in good shape, I'm (so far) hanging on to my job, and haven't had to break into my own house yet. So, mojo to all the WGBers out there who need it.

Did everything my mom needed me to do around the house in an hour this morning because i had to be at my tattoo appointment at 11:30.
drove into town, bulled my way into a good-ish parking spot in the Wal-Mart parking lot, which was extra-busy as this is the Saturday after Welfare Wednesday and all the Cedrics and Melvins had come off the reserves with their extended families to hit the box stores and Mcdonalds.
got to the tat parlour and discovered that the tattoo artist had left soon after arriving, due to a headache... had to reschedule for Monday.
O.O grrrr...
so i stayed in town, bought my sister's birthday presents from three different stores. drove around for a while then took myself out for lunch and a movie (My Best Friend's Girl).
silly movie, but fun.
then home for a quiet relaxed evening, and now talking to Twilite via Skype Smile

Today, I bought a Burrito Kit.

Such Burrito kits always disappoint me. Because when I open them, I expect to find a bunch of bolts in a plastic bag and a little spanner.

Any of the Americanos wanna explain to me the difference between a burrito and a fajita?

I can only guess what it means, but loving the phrase "Cedrics and Melvins" GR *lol*

I keep thinking "ooh, I better do x, or y if e're going out today.. and then it hits me. No work for 7 months! w00t and double w00t!!

Hopefully heading to one, or two if time allows, more open house London places today.. though one, the Shri Swamanarayan Mandir (an amazingly beautiful local Hindu temple) doesn't allow photography which is a shame Frown

A both use tortillas. However, a burrito is usually, at most basic, beans, rice, cheese, and some meat and condiments. A fajita is only supposed to have grilled meat (skirt steak, hence "fajita" which is the diminutive of "faja" -- girdle), onions, and bell peppers. According to wikipedia, addition of additional fillings is incorrect:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fajita

It's a relatively new dish (late 70s, early 80s), originates in Texas.

Here is wikipedia's entry on Burritos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrito

Second day of Open House London.. We went to The Hoover Building, a stunning Art Deco building that used to be a Hoover factory.. a large part is now a Tescos supermarket, where we often shop, so was great to see some of the original fixtures and fittings behind the scenes..
Then (after shopping in said tescos *l*) we went to BAPS Sri Swaminarayan Mandir, the most amazing Hindu temple which isn't far from us.. It was breathtaking. I often drive past it on my way home from work, and every single time I do it amazes me, but to see inside it was even better. Highly reccomended to anyone visiting London and looking for some peace and something outside the ordinary.
Loved that, as we left, they invited us back any time we wanted.. "you can pray to any God you want".
