I've been working a fair bit and not getting sufficient sleep, so when I get the chance to sleep without a deadline I seem to get my week's worth of REM in one hit.

Just woke up from the most full-on dream. Three hours set in the future. There was bio-tech, nano-tech, artificial intelligence, life extension, novel ways of killing people (don't ask), futuristic transport, and even Mark Twain showed up with a riverboat.

I think I need some coffee.

Somebody in the office just answered the phone.

A guy from Nigeria was calling, wanted to know if we could provide him a list of all ATM machines in the UK onto his cell phone.
No.
All banks would do too.
I don't think so.

I'd think a list of all ATMs in Nigeria would be more useful to him.

Do cash machines in Nigeria dispense Euros?

*dances the "i'm right again" dance*
back story:
on Monday my brother caught a ride with me up to our grandparents place. i was driving, it was getting dark and pouring down rain. to try to relax, i took his screamy thrashy Avenged Sevenfold CD out of the stereo and stuck in my White Stripes "Elephant" CD.
from that point, my brother (who believes himself to be somewhat of a rock music person, despite knowing basically nothing about music and being able to play just enough guitar to say he plays) complained about the music.
"Oh, man, how unoriginal." during Black Math
"Do we have to keep listening to this 80's punk ripoff??" during Ball and Biscuit.
and i am getting annoyed because, well, its my music, and he's in my car, and i like the White Stripes, and i think Jack White is a pretty amazing musician.
and i'm not a music expert, but i studied music for 2 years. plus i remember all sorts of random facts about things, including pop culture.
so i tell him what i can remember about Elephant: that Jack and Meg recorded the album in a two-week period in London. that Jack produced it using pre-60's recording gear and an eight-track tape machine.
i tell him that Jack White is a very good, very talented musician, and as an example I tell him about It Might Get Loud, a documentary on the history of the electric guitar, featuring The Edge, Jimmy Page, and (you guessed it) Jack White.
my brother is still skeptical. this annoys me, but i drop the subject when we get to my grandparents house.
apparently its been niggling at the back of my mind though, because today in a fit of boredom i wiki'ed Jack White.
guess what?
Rolling Stone put Jack White at spot #17 on the "Top 100 Guitarists of All Time".
so i'm right. Smile *is happy*
*has texted her brother with this information*

also i really like this quote about why Jack White tries to keep his personal life private:
"It's the same thing as asking Michelangelo, 'What kind of shoes do you wear?'...In the end, it doesn't really matter ... the only thing that's going to be left is our records and photos."

eta: point of this is not that Rolling Stone is right about everything to do with music.
the point is that i am not the only person who thinks that Jack White is a good musician. just to clarify.

That boy has every bit as much pop sensibility as Kurt Cobain, the talent to back it up, the intelligence to not go out like Kurt and the ability to enunciate well enough to be understood.

I might not like everything he's written, but I do think he's one talented sumbeiotch.

and that, right there, is a way of looking at music that my bro needs to cultivate.

Jack White enunciates? Thats my issue with him.. I can't hear the words! I wanna hear the words damn it.

I'd very much like to hear a White Stripes unplugged, because it wasn't till I heard Nirvana unplugged that I appreciated Kurt Cobain at all..

White Stripes cover of Jolene is one of the greatest covers ever though Smile

Currently cranking the Carcass and whatever other extreme shit I can find on the iPod in SFO to drown out the annoying cellphone woman sitting near me.

Plus we'd be screwed on the porch light thing. I'd be still thinking 'meh, must get around to screwing that back in' a month later.

Comes from playing various instruments for over 30 years. He'll get there.

Well, I listen to a lot of metal, punk, industrial and otherwise unintelligible music, so I am used to straining to decipher murky lyrics.

To me, JW's voice comes in clear as a ringing bell. He's no George Fisher

Anabel, if you're using Safari, just right-click in the WGB "Edit" box and go down to the Spelling menu and select "Check Spelling As You Type" to have it automatically spell check.

Sucks to have evil coworkers. We only have one here, but I can sympathize...

I looked at a house to rent today I really liked. It got me thinking. I have a strong aversion to clutter. I am an anti-pack rat. I throw out tons of stuff never more so then when I move. I am moving in with a woman, a toddler, and a cat (she offered to get rid of the cat for me but I declined).

I think I might just go nuts. All I ask is that the master bedroom be off limits to anything under 4 feet tall.

The funny thing is, although I talk a good game here SHE is the pne with stuff that needs to be locked up.

Which is ironic since much of it has locks built in.
