Friday was my last chanbara practice at Goshinkan Paris.
I now have my teacher's blessing to go to Japan and get my black belt from our Founder himself. This is top priority.

We celebrated appropriately.

Wanderu was/were there.
(Although in a pretty bad shape.)

Charlene and her girlfriend Sarah made the trip from back East too.

Saturday night was my farewell party.
It rocked tremendously.
I am still quite high.

A few pictures will follow.

Παύλος Παυλίδης (gr wiki)
which also was the frontman for Ξύλινα Σπαθιά (en wiki).
If Andreas hears about this, he's gonna be jealous.

My recording setup went into open rebellion. If the input is turned up enough to be heard, it's clipped down to a bare, clean signal. Which is boring. {sigh} Unfortunately, due to multiple firmware upgrades, the manual no longer applies so it's difficult to troubleshoot. Off to the web, for solutions from crackpots.

Visited my friend, dropped off much Futurama. He's still in a lot of pain though, not to mention dopey with Percocet, so I didn't hang about.

Went mountain biking briefly. Good ride with no broken bones; even managed to miss hitting the cows standing in the middle of the trail.

And to top the evening off, I have finally pulled the trigger on the new home entertainment setup. 106" projector screen FTW! (Erm, in 5-10 shipping days, that is...)

Attending an education conference this week. I think I might have huffed too much lithos, 'cos the Wank Factor on most papers seems ridiculously high, and for many of them there's definitely a 'cannae tak' it' feel.

Remember, if you can't take the bullshit, it's ok to let fly with what you really think.

Feel free to wrap it in the guise of "free speech" or some other ruse.

Bought myself a (cough) belt

and other things at a designer outlet. Even saw the designer herself (Benedikte Utzon) who acted like the dress I tried on in a size too small actually fit me. Found it one size up and bought it (and am now thinking it might actually be too big). In any case I got a sweater, a dress, a silk tunic and 2 belts for less than $200 USD.

I don't understand the clipped down to a bare, clean signal.

Line 6 PodXT into a PC via USB, Tracktion software. In my prior experience, clipping generally means that the output device is overloading and automatically cuts down on the volume. However, in this case the clipping indicator comes on immediately with any real volume at all (the podXT actually flashes the word 'clip' at you when this happens), and instead of just reducing volume, you get a very brief (less than a second) slice of what the tone is supposed to sound like (overdrive, distortion, etc.) before it changes to a totally clean sound at low volume. As if it's decided you're cranking it too much and it's turning off all the effects and the simulated amp overdrive.

Kind of a virtual mother effect. I'll play with it some more when I have the patience. I haven't done much troubleshooting yet.

In other audio news, I did a surgical consult today with a guy who's planning on bolting a bionic ear to my head. I've tried the headband version of the thing (geekout) and it worked like a million bucks. The implant version apparently works even better. We have the technology.
