I found my phone, thank gods.

And now, having seen a left-side shot of my face, am looking for that fucking dermatologist reference to get this fucking mole cut out.

Dawntreader had some OS problems and assumed your avatar pic had something malicious; I tried to explain that while possible, it's not likely with that kind of file (a JPG). More likely a script or exploit picked up on some P2P or email.

It seriously ruined my day to be suspected of electronical misbehavior.

I wouldn't know how to do that. I am on a Mac. I looked again if something attached itself to it but I think it would be bigger then.

As expected, I'm sick as a dog. Fucking head cold.
Worst thing: For the first time in months, my wife and I had planned a nice evening together, tomorrow night. Visit our favorite restaurant and going to the theatre to see V for Vendetta.
Unless I'm feeling a lot better by tomorrow evening, it looks like it's not going to happen.

Fuck.

Gringo, with the right drugs you can have a nice evening out even with a head cold. I recommend Alka-Seltzer Plus. It enters your bloodstream so fast and your symptoms go *poof* for a few hours. It comes in flavours, so except for the last little bitter swallow, downing the stuff is not so bad.

It seems much more likely that the apparent relationship is coincidental. Although it is possible to put exploits in images, if there is a appropriate bug in the viewing code, those would almost certainly be triggered by viewing the image, not by clicking it.

More likely there was already a virus or malware on the system, and it just happened to trigger at the time you were doing whatever it was you did (clicking on avatars, including hasad's, doesn't actually do anything).

thanks to the well oiled machine that is the mexican navy, my companion is going to be 3 or 4 days late getting back to the mainland, and will therefore not arrive in time for any of the travel reservation that were perviously arranged. so i spent the first part of my day rearranging the time i'd taken off work, the ride i'd hooked up, and settling down the rioting mobs in my head. spent the next part of the day looking for flights back into the US from where she'll be, of which there appear to be ZERO. fucking easter. fucking catholics.

but fuck it. she's coming back.

she's coming back.

The only thing more stressful than being a 19 yr male old working in an office w/ 40-60 yr old women on a normal day is doing so when there are tornados touching down all over the state and a funnel cloud spotted on a direct route for my area. Nothing much happened, of course, but I just about lost it when I called my grandad at home(there was quarter-sized hail reported in our neighborhood) and he said he'd been sitting on the front porch. I know there's been a lot of carnage...

...around and i'm lucky not to have been in the middle of it blown away by tornado, but it was still a hell of a way to end a week.

Yes, you definitely had a malicious attack. But those who know have said it was *extremely* unlikely that it was hasad's avatar, simply because those exploits are very rare. It's more probable that the trojan/malware *revealed itself* when whatever app you used to look at the avatar opened. I think it would be fairer to give hasad the benefit of the doubt, since he has said he didn't do it. Don't make it a 'choose him or me' situation... we sympathise with your losses and hassles, and are angry at whoever did it to you... but there's an excellent chance that it was someone else.

What they're saying, dt, is that what happened to you, by your description, was the result of someone fucking with your computer. But, it was unlikely due to viewing an avatar. If you're on a broadband connection with a Windows machine, you're a target. Nobody's waiting for you to look at somebody's avatar. They're constantly searching for machines to hijack. You were a victim, but you weren't hasad's victim. Somebody was using your machine to store or distribute data, most likely. It probably started well before you opened hasad's avatar. The crash was inevitable, and would have happened while you were doing something on the computer. That doesn't mean that the something you were doing had anything to do with the crash.

If there's kiddie porn or something else blatantly, horribly illegal on your machine, then call the FBI or the Georgia State Police. Otherwise, it's time to move on.

Obviously you don't. Everybody loads the avatars
for viewing everytime a page loads. Considering
the massive collective amounts of virus software
that must regularly scan this forum, you'd think
that either someone else would have a similar
problem or would have had some sort of virus
warning from their antivirus.

I believe you, but it's obvious that you're
unaware of its origins.

Ah yes, and length of occupancy is the true
status here.

I don't doubt it and can truly empathize with
your plight, but flinging around unsupportable
accusations helps nothing and noone.

I am too F...... ANGRY to try and talk about it. No one needs to make a choice. Just BEWARE.. Bad things do happen sometimes and just because we are here in a good place does not mean that everyone is what you think they are. I do not want anyone to take my part in anything. I can stand on my own. Yet, after more than three years here, I do hope my word means a little to you guys. I know what I know and I had a virus set upon me it was inbedded in a picture. We have spent hours restoring my hard drive. Perhaps it would have been better if I had remained silent and not warned you of a potential danger.
