David, I'm somewhat amused at the idea of a Belgian whose English is better than his French. How does that happen?

Well... while the country is theoreticly bilingual (or actually trilingual, but nobody cares about german); here in the middle of west flanders nobody speaks french. It's all dutch (or our own corky dialect variant) and no french speakers stop here on their way to the coastline. English media is also a lot more popular than french media here, so even as a kid i've been way more exposed to english than to french.

The only serious bilingual belgians are in brussels and in the areas arround the language border. And most of the people arround the language border are to stubborn to speak their second language anyway (there are some major issues about that). When you're in the middle of flanders or wallonia, you only know the language of the area and that's it.

I meant... no belgians, excpet for the few thousand people in the very eastern bit that we got from germany after one of the world wars, care about speaking german. I had a very small amount of german in school, but all in all i remember maybe three coherent phrases from it.

Upon spying a plastic bag on my friend's desk:
"You only broke up with your girlfriend six hours ago and you're already shopping at Hot Topic? My God, it's worse than I feared."

"I had to get the Insane Clown Posse album I didn't already have."

"Man, you have some profoundly fucked up coping strategies."

Ah, I didn't know that Belgium sucked in a bit of Germany. I would guess that it was after WWI when the winners were madly giving away bits of failed empires. France got Alsace, Poland was reborn, The Balkans became the birthplace for the mess of the 90's.

Sorry, sometimes the history geek pops out.

Work was odd, my boss would not let me go- She wanted me to stay not matter what the cost- I also talked to her about going on call after the summer cause I can get a better job with better pay- She didn't seem to pissed with me- Perhaps, she was in a good mood due to lack of oxygen-

"Belgium: The Conglomerate Country."

"Belgium: Preventing the Dutch invading France, Germany invading England, but not preventing everyone invading Us."

"Belgium: Home of the Borinage, which sent Van Gogh insane!"

"Belgium: We've got beer! And chocolate! And chips!"

And, on a related note:

"Luxembourg: Belgium's bitch."

Wow, it's been a whirlwind of crap around SW Va of late. You got the Tech massacre and all the fallout from that. We've had abnormally fierce winds blowing down powerlines and whatnot.

I'm one of the victims of those winds and my apartment is without power. Which means also without water. I said screw it and have gotten a hotel room in Roanoke, so I don't have to commute. Of course, I was lucky to get a room as there are tons of media coming in and having a feeding frenzy on the crazed post-massacre coverage.

2. Suzie came home with a web development project for me: I was sleepy when I started but got intrigued and just finished making it pretty at 1:30 am

And none of my friends understood why i wanted to be a cop.

The boss at the new job I hate had the kid next to me go over a monitoring report on a call I had taken and done poorly on. He asked what I thought about the report and I mentioned that I didn't care about it one way or another. He asked if I understood that it affected the raise I would get next year if I did poorly on them and asked if I was planning on being there a year.

I said not really.

Why can't I ever just say the thing they want to hear? Next thing is a monthly review where they assign ME goals and expect me to sign the damn thing.

I don't sign things either.

I need a gig that is physical and lets me get out some aggression, any suggestions?

The gunfire around us makes it hard to hear. But the human voice is different from other sounds. It can be heard over noises that bury everything else. Even when it's not shouting. Even when it's just a whisper. Even the lowest whisper can be heard - -over armies... when it's telling the truth.

Physical aggression, refusing to conform at all to supervisors' expectations, no signing anything... hmmm, have you considered armed robbery?

Got up in the morning aching all over. Emailed in sick and slept on-and-off until five in the evening. Struggled out of bed to post on the WGB.*

* Not really. I'm feeling much better now.

I've tried eating eggs, but frankly, the whole crunchy on the outside, soupy on the inside thing doesn't work for me.

The ones that are all downy and bony on the inside are even worse.
