Hahahahahahah! Where were all you helpful bastards while I was getting my General Studies degree in CSc, MIS & Creative Writing?!? Big Grin

In other news, my Airport Extreme went up in smoke last night. And I mean that literally. Noticed the music wasn't streaming anymore--went over to it, saw there was no green light. So I unplugged it and the case was extra-toasty warm to the touch. Plugged it back into the surge suppressor and got a loud pop and a lovely smell of burnt capacitance... So it's back to the Bose Roommates while I call the Apple Store every couple days checking if they have a returned Airport Extreme or Apple TV to sell me...

Well, it was one of the more miserable experiences of my academic career, and it has an incredibly high washout rate (at my school, at least.) I suppose it would depend on the curriculum and concentration. Just don't make the mistake of assuming that, because you like computers with a little light programming on the side that you'll like Computer Science.

I just got back from an evening out and when I came into the house the back door was open. I know that I locked it before leaving. I did leave my bedroom window proped open with a window fan and the fan looks like it has been moved over to one side. I had a neighbor come in and we searched the house for serial killers.
I decided to prop a cymbal against my bedroom dooor and another one against the window. Now I am going to try and get some sleep.

I tend to agree with this. Learning to program is one thing; doing it 40 hours a week (ok, probably more like 60-80 hours a week) on a team under deadline is another thing. Especially if math doesn't excite you.... I have no idea why they put so much emphasis on math in CSc, but they do seem to in the higher level courses.

I have a vacation coming soon. I'm leaving for Los Angeles on a Greyhound bus on the 19th of May. I'm going to the Star Wars Celebration in California.

I'm sure I'll post a few (but not a lot) of photos somewhere when I get back. I'll try not to overdo it too much. No generic convention shots hopefully. But anything to do with a Gibson theme I consider fair game, such as creativity, interaction between the famous and normal, and, dare I say it, sociology in the good sense. You will get the truth from me, and nothing but.

If anyone, I mean anyone from the WGB is in the LA area and wants to meet up, I will happily pay for the coffee. I should be there a day on either side of the convention.

I'm used to being open, so I put my e-mail on my profile.

This will be an experience.

Was witness to a profoundly sexy karaoke rendition of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb."

My night at work was speeded along by playing much Pokemon Diamond. I'm quasi-embarrassed about letting my coworker(s) see me play it, but I watch half of them knit soooo...

More and more, I am becoming convinced that EP works as a security guard.

I got over being embarrased about knitting at work a long time ago.

One of the Russian ladies told me about having a knitting machine back home, and using it to make socks. Must try that sometime.

No, my previous sig wasn't really funny.

Checked out the tiny café/art gallery 'round the corner from my place - the joint I briefly worked in as a barista with the previous, dodgy owner. Did some schmoozing to see if I can get some of my photos up, and for sale.

One profoundly drunk Justice Dept. worker told me I was beautiful, ended up hugging me. But it's nothing personal; she said I looked like someone else (I get that a lot. Which is great, but would be better if I can get a jury to believe it.) Could've been a shag, but I don't think like that, even though drunken older chicks are, for some reason, curiously hot.

Had to show the girl behind the counter how to make a short black - turns out she goes to QUT, and will be doing the same photo subject I'm doing now next semester. And she needs someone to show her some camera skills. Should see her Wednesday. Maybe. Cute. Drives a silver Neo-Nazi-mobile, but I can forgive her for that.

The manager promised me to play a song next week. Damn. Time to dust off the axe.

Nope, I'm a Master Control Operator. I watch TV for a living, well when I'm not playing Pokemon.

Earlier this evening I helped a bandmate of mine move house. In fact, all five that came to help were musicians too, so naturally, we had a lot of fun together, while moving the little stuff... until there was only the television set, the washing machine and dryer left to be hauled up the stairs.
And, suddenly, all four of the other helpers turned out to have bad backs, bad wrists, bad knees, you name it.

So guess who ended up dragging those three fucking machines up the stairs?

Fucking musicians. Seriously.

Tonight, I was at my sisters birthday party.
The concept was: free cocktail bar, with professional bartenders. Very elegant.
I like drinking, and before, I liked drinking a lot. But events during the last 6 months have made me averse to very drunk people. So I left early.
The conversation with the cab-driver on the way home was almost the best part of the evening.

I went to my father's wedding today. The weirdness wore off pretty fast. It was, all in all, a nice day. My father and my great-uncle played guitar in the evening. Might have danced with a newly acquired niece in the evening but the music sucked and I wasn't drunk enough to give a damn.
