Yeah, it's all pretty typical. I just kept riding.

So you've been assigned to the avians, eh Marsh? (I got reptiles, dammit!)

Actually, my bike ride today was pretty uneventful. Even passed a speed trap driving back at 13 over and for some reason the motorcycle copy still manning it at 7:30pm didn't want me. I coasted down to 7 over immediately, but still... if he'd wanted, he so could have written me up.

Glad you had a good party, FP! Happy belated bday!

Set up a date with "my girl" for a week from now. I'm not sure what the circumstances are, whether we will just be "hanging out" or if I'm allowed to touch her. Part of me will just be glad to see her, cause it's been almost two months. The other part (the lower, dangly part) needs lovin' and will be sorely disappointed with a platonic setting.

In other news, I survived another overtime laden week and now have a coupla days off. I need a haircut, but I may prove too lazy to get out and get one. I tend to go to the mall and have it done and that's like rolling the dice. I once had an asian woman with limited english skills give me a 90 minute haircut that did not please the eye. I was both late and angry. Hoping the next one isn't that bad.

Oh, and for all denizens of the stain of the British Empire that is the Commonwealth, happy unelected inbred sponge birthday!

Forgive me, but I'll save the champagne for the day they all cark it.

Picked up a secondhand USB 2.0 external hard drive from a local guy who advertised it for sale on another forum.

Got it home, fired it up, backed up a load of data, turned it off.

Now it doesn't want to turn on again. It's probably a power supply problem, hopefully intermittent.

The guy did tell me he'd had no hassles with it and to bring it back if I had any problems. That's fine, but now it's got a whole lot of my documents on it. I just want the damn thing to work properly.

An email has been sent. I'm not very happy.

Only been up less than 2 hours. Had an email waiting for me from a high school friend. He was our Italian exchange student and is one of the funniest guys I know, though I haven't seen him in decades. He's now an International Food and Beverage consultant, whatever the hell that is. He pities the way Americans eat, and never neglects a chance to mention it. If it hadn't been for the Internet, I never could have resumed contact with him. A good start to the day.

Spent the last ten minutes filling out an "After-You've-Finished-Your-Degree" survey:

Q: What is something you'd like your university's careers website to offer?

A: Hope.

I'd have allowed my self an ironic chuckle, were the whole education thing not so sad.

Oh well, the's a small chance of winning a $4000 travel voucher, and a much larger chance they're gonna spam my Hotmail account until Rapture.

today: took a break from job-hunting to study for physics final tomorrow

over the past week: applied to 15 different jobs so far. My dad's expressed his concern about the cost of attedning the U of Washington, suggesting I could live at home, an option I *really* don't want to occur. But, living at home would save $2,000, so I'm trying to acquire >$1,000 over this summer.

Also have been scholarship hunting, hoping I can get a few thousand that way, though that's something I should've started earlier Mad

also, yesterday: got told by a friend that the U of Washington's differential equations class will very likely chew me up and spit me out, and that I should've taken it last winter at the community college.

also I went shooting this morning.
A .22 handgun, semiautomatic.
A 9mm Glock, a slightly bigger Glock.
2 shotguns, one pump-action and the other an old-style-looking "grandpa gun" with a hell of a kick.
pinched my hand in the pump-action shotgun.
SO much fun.

my aim needs work though...

For xenophile:
Now I hope you will remember this when you become a succesful professional, so you will vote for excellent free educations for everyone.

In Europe, so many politicians are fascinated by the American system, and they forget how we feed the American system with our undergraduates and graduates who all had a free education of much higher quality than their American peers. (We know, because they compete on equal terms with American students).

I think American students and European universities have a common cause: we want to keep our good students, and you want more liberal access to good education. Punk the politicians!

All you can say is WHAT happened. You do not know why. You will never know why.

Was talking with a Danish guy once, about the US health care system. He asked why, when the US is so rich, we don't have better government health care. I mentioned the conservative philosophy, common in the US, of small government, e.g. Reagan stating that government is the problem, not the solution. Then, I was struck with the sudden realization of irony, since the government has grown even more bloated under the current Republican president.
