Going to Maine...my family gets together once a year for a week in the summer, and this year we're renting a house on a lake in Maine. It'll be the first time my boyfriend meets the fam (other than my mom, he's met her a few times)...should be fun!

I watched a pair of twits engage in a car-mediated shoving match. Twit one pulls into the next lane without looking, causing twit two to swerve and brake. (I was behind twit two, a fair way back, because my psychic powers had already determined he was a twit.)

OK, accident avoided. I might give a blast on the horn or let loose with some expletives if I was in twit two's position at that point. What I wouldn't do is what he did: speed up, so that he was right up twit one's ass, then pull into the next lane and next to twit one, shouting and shaking his fist out the window, then pull in front and swerve in front of twit one in exactly the same manner as twit one did to him.

Did I mention twit two was driving an SUV with about three "patriotic" stickers (the ones with lots of bald eagles and stars and stripes, words like "American and Proud") in the rear window? Way to be a stereotype, guy.

I hate driving in California.

Hey dude. Psychic powers are one thing, but a bumper sticker saying "American and Proud" on an SUV ...

@ Colin

3 years ago I saw tones of them around Bakersfield. Was hoping that this would be temporary trend because of 9/11 and so. Ohh well, thers worse.

I am supposed to sit through a Longhorn presentation at 7pm. I am sooo not in the mood to listen to a Microsoft Consultant named Dave.

My favorite is "These colors don't run" I assume the last part of that phrase is "they invade" but that always seems to be missing. Maybe they ran out of room on the sticker.

Colin, you should try driving in Albuquerque. Almost no one here has done any actual farming in a generation or two, but they all still make "tractor turns". That is turning right by first turning left. (picture a tractor with a tiny front wheel) As if thier Ford 350 with dually back wheels is EVER going to tip over.

Also it seems to be widely believed that using a turn signal gives some form of unfair advantage to those around you. Thereby preventing you from doing whatever squirely thing your impulses demand.

Well, I drive a SUV, but I need the size and power for work. I pull various trailers and such and need the horsepower (as well as the leather seats, the internets, the bar and the sound system).

My bumper sticker says,

WYOMING LIBERALS SHOOT BACK

That's in response to one I read here in town that said,

CLEAN UP AMERICA
SHOOT A LIBERAL

The one I see all the time around here is:

Annoy a Liberal: work, succeed, be happy

My proposed answer:

Annoy a Conservative: teach, vote, stay angry

Though in general, I feel that I can't express myself fully in the ten words or so that fit on one of these things, so I refrain from bumper stickers entirely. (Though I may purchase and place a VNV Nation sticker on my car once we've been to the show this Friday).

Your SUV looks much better than his SUV, Trog. Yours looks like you're using it for something, and not as a codpiece.

There appears to be an epidemic of broken signal lights in California, too. Otherwise, I can't explain the fact that 95% of the drivers don't use them, and another 4% have them stuck.

I do use mine as a dong-gourd, but like you say, that's different.

I'm not criticizing SUV's, I drove a V8 Chevy stationwagon for the last six or seven years. But gas prices and broken elec. windows drove me into the arms of an '82 S-10 with a V-6. I have to turn my left signal off manually each time, but I do it.

I saw an Escalade parked in Copenhagen while biking from work to the train station. Boy did that thing look out of place.

Okay.... I've finally stopped laughing pictureing Trogs SUV as a dong guard-

We have all these mini hummers around here- With spinners- I don't understand that anymore than I do a SUV for city driving- it must have something to do with the military base, and their excess money-

Tho,a friend of mine who lived in Seattle swore you needed a big truck there so you could get around with out confrontation- I thought he was kind of full of it- Now, after reading colins post I believe you invite it-
