SHORPY: History In HD I know I do! |

I've spent many an hour browsing through this site, usually after just loading it 'for a look'. It certainly gives you a new appreciation of the phrase 'hard times', that seems to be bandied about a lot in the media lately. Start with Shorpy's page, or The Breaker, both images originally taken by the incredible Lewis Hine. Shorpy's Lewis Hine Collection ++++++++++++++++++++ Reality is, of course, an illusion. But it's a *real* illusion. |

There's something about seeing colour photos from the past that makes it all seem so much more real.

I guess it relates to how we experience reality (ie, in colour and not in B&W).
As a child I always imagined the past as a black and white world where people moved silently at eighteen frames per second. I remember seeing a photograph of my (now deceased) grandmother at age sixteen walking along a road. It was a real headspin. my god, she was once... young. -------------------------- A titanium wren never sings. |

Or whether you're old enough to have been brought up watching black & white TV. ++++++++++++++++++++ Reality is, of course, an illusion. But it's a *real* illusion. |

Are you sure you're not colorizing? ++++++++++++++++++++ Reality is, of course, an illusion. But it's a *real* illusion. |

I (born in '56) watched B&W TV almost exclusively until maybe 8 years old, and when I was ten my household got its own color TV... but even then, most reruns were B&W.
However, cinema was still huge, and Technicolor was de rigeur. I don't think I've ever dreamed in B&W. I would love to see further studies assessing conscious levels of creativity, susceptibility to hypnosis, and independent thought, and see how they factored into these stats. |
