I'm pimpin' this one hard.

Fantastic Contraption

Lotsa lotsa fun. Now I'm stuck on "Unpossible" (appropriately enough).

Also, I highly recommend you load up a few from the comments section. There are some amazingly elegant solutions, not to mention guys who are making working trebuchets, bicycles and centrifugal rope launchers.

So I am not much of a tuber but I had this video I took on Guavaween of my friend Brandon in the window of the tattoo shop that I had uploaded. Somebody took the time to add music to it and here is the result.

By the way ladies he is now single and cleanshaven.

Cho-Cho San Restaurant.

On my list next time I make it to NYC. Course, my list of NYC restaurants to try is like 2 pages long, and I haven't been (outside of JFK and EWR) in 15 years or something, so...

SO my friend plays bass for a metal band that I have successfully dodged seeing live.

Now they have their first video done.

I am so glad I have not gone to see them.

Check it out though, if nothing else it is really really funny.

Filmed in and around Ybor City it was more interesting to watch for places and people I knew than for the music, kind of like an episode of 'Cops' filmed in your hometown.

I think if they cut the scenes of the singer singing, the video would be much better. Not too bad though, video wise. Music is not different enough to distinguish.

The 'vampire metal' tag worried me right from link time, and those worries were pretty much borne out. A touch of subtlety and suggestion rather than blatant telling in both the song and the vid would be helpful, IMO. Musically competent, but some work on the writing would make a big difference. Plus I'm guessing the vampire metal thing would be pretty limiting after about, oh, song 3 or so...

All goods points. It also sucks ass imo. Apparently the singer is the owner and hired the other guys. So my friend is treated more like an employee than anything else. Another friend was the drummer until he disagreed with the singer once too often....

odd way to run a band I think.

Weird I never thought of a band as really having an "owner". Their chosen genre is self limiting and guarantees never having major success. Still if they do it for their own amusement and not as way to make a living/career, more power to em. Keep the day jobs. Or is that bad advice for a vampire?

Mr Gibson on the future of science fiction, in New Scientist. Much the same as what he said in the Utopiales clip Arkangl gave us.

Fuck you, you fucking faggot! What bands do you like, pussy?

Ah, spending time - any amount of time - in some sort of metal subculture.

Gotta prove you're hardcore. Gotta do what you believe. There's a niche for everything, and your tuning potential goes up immediately once you become some sort of higher ridge or hillock above said niche's general topography.

I'd be willing to bet, though, that drummer in the band's the most talented of the lot. Always is. Some poor dude who's spent his life saving for a set of Ludwigs - double kicks, more toms than the male section of a cattery, Avedis Zildjian - and drumming to Jon Bonham, Ringo, and Keith Moon. Studies music and teaches drumming to kids.

And now plays live on a set of secondhand set of Premiers, because the singer does not like "the snare because it sounds weak and gay. Also, [the guitarist] can't fit your fucking kit in the van once he gets his two Behringer V-Ampires in there."

But since this is the only gig he's got - after all, only a vampire metal band is desperate enough to have a drummer as their most qualified musician - so he sits at the back, nursing sore legs from doing nothing but machine gun kicks at 220BPM for twenty minutes.

Eventually he'll be kicked out of the band after he turns up wearing a shirt that's got more then a square inch of light yellow on it, the singer decides that his drums are tuned to high above the guitarist's drop A (who uses a bass's G string for the E on his Epiphone Goth Les Paul) or leaves of his own accord after he gets a gig with a local jazz quartet, where he'll actually get paid with more than a share of a $50 bar tab, got a singer who knows what "in key" means and where he can go beyond 4/4. He'll be replaced by the singer's friend who's pretty all right on drums, and can get the really good absinthe. The real stuff. With, like, wormwood in it.

Or he really may be shithouse. Haven't listened to the clip, yet. I may be drawing most of this story from Flatmate M's drummer in his Pirate Metal band.
