I enjoyed this book, which also posits, in part, that information isn't knowledge, by Neil Postman called "Amusing Ourselves To Death." As you can imagine from the title, it has much to say against television. I recommend it, although the argument is so absolute that it's hard to always take it seriously.

Good lord...sorry! I could've sworn I hit REPLY here. If there's a mod around, feel free to delete this and I can post a reply at the proper thread concerning information and knowledge. Gaaahh.....*rolls eyes*

Heh, and here I thought you were postulating that the book could only be great if you don't read it.

I couldn't stand it.
I didn't bother finishing it. I had far too many people telling me what a great book it was. Alas, so many of them strove to mimic characters in the book. And I hate reading stuff that was written to be long and verbose. Why use 2 words when you could use 50? Maybe I am simply not enough of a poet. |

Mort--I think he was referring to the book "Amusing Ourselves to Death" and not the Brothers Karamazov.
Unless you were demonstrating the fact that you only generally read posts halfway through, as well as old Russian literature...? No offense, I do this all the time too. Just thought it was funny. |
