I'm finishing off season 2.
I know, I was just watching s02e04 at the beginning of the week. Unlike Colin I couldn't control myself.

awesome awesome awesome series.
and I don't mind spoilers from the third season either.
I had read spoilers for the second one previous to watching it and it didn't stop me from enjoying it one bit less.

I gotta say I loved the ' Downloaded ' episode.
The flipside of the doctor is fantastic!
but story wise I fear they're making things way too neat with this development.

I made a rash, er, command decision to use some of my birthday $ to start up Netflix again back in January - Battlestar and Firefly have been in heavy rotation! (Just watched the first two episodes of season 2.0 last night, with a bit of shovelling and teen-pickup (my own, you dirty-minded bastards! -- No, not that way!! eww.) in between. Good stuff, I definitely agree.

Um, excuse me; I'm having a Baltar moment...

I will have to be careful around this thread, though -- perhaps we can preface our posts with season/episode #s (probably too anal, but hey) -- I can live with spoilers, but I'd rather not -- the pre-eps that start out Firefly are as much as I care to handle.

Battlestar was made for Torrent.

I've been getting my Season Three (S03) for weeks now by Torrent, after switching over from the rather unsatisfactory iTunes download. The quality is better from Torrent also over iTunes. However, neither Torrent or iTunes is as good as the DVD.

What has caused me some minor distress was the move from broadcasting Battlestar on Friday nights to Sunday. You see, it used to be that Friday's episode was availble online (iTunes and Torrent) by Sunday. Now, the episode is available during the busier weekday.

Currently S03E18 "The Sun Also Rises " is avaiable:

When Baltar's representatives face assassination attempts, Adama asks Lee to protect Baltar's lawyer. After taking on the assignment, Lee seeks to play an active role in Baltar's defense. Mark Sheppard (a Brit) as Romo Lampkin, Baltar's 2nd attorny plays a good part making the episode. Although, I did not like the OTT Aussie accent.

This is a 'bridge' episode where nothing really happens.

I assume that action will heat-up in "Cross Roads Part I and II" (S03E19 and S03E20).
The S03 Season will end with a cliffhanger in S03E19. Red Face

D00d-ette...

I wouldn't miss her, but from a storyline POV, she really can't be.

Actually, I have a hard time watching episode-by-episode. I became addicted by watching Season I on DVD in a marathon 2-days. That's some serious eye-candy. Now, going episode-by-episode kinda sucks.

Also, the kink has sorta worn-off. I really liked the early Baltar-Caprica 6 mind game. Was she or wasn't she there? Now, I don't really care.

This is odd: Caprica 6 - Natasi

yeah, the episode by episode pace is going to suck.
I finished off season 02 in a week.

season 04 is gonna start in january!
I bet you they gonna have webepisodes.
how the fuck does one get to watch those when they don't live in the fucking north america or a bbc broadcast country for that matter....

Grit your teeth, and only watch 3-episodes at a time.

Yeah, that is going to suck. I can recommend the series 'Firefly' and 'Farscape' to hold you over. (Oooh Claudia Black, the Girl with the Gun!)

the webisodes get collected and put up in a torrent as well.......

So, do we really think Starbuck's destiny was to fly into a swirling hole after all that time kicking ass? Is she a cylon maybe? Rescued by the mystery ship? Hmmmm....

Yep. Both excellent shows... which I've seen already.

so that's how she goes? thank god! I bet it's the mystery ship then.
I thought they put a bullet through her or something. If we don't have a body then she's not dead. whewww!

re: starbuck

we see her ship explode after getting too low into the atmosphere of a wicked swirling cloud planet (in other words, it is crushed by atmospheric pressure).

prior to all this, there is several episodes worth of buildup around Starbuck's painting of a swirling hole image. in this particular episode, we see that she has been recreating the image since childhood, as she revisits past memories.

that's the other thing, she is reconciled with her mother in a weird "virtual" meet. similar to how Baltar perceives his rendevous with Caprica 6; how he imagines himself back in his old house which was, of course, destroyed in the initial nuke attack of Caprica.

at this point it seems safe to say that Baltar is not a cylon, yet he is able to enter the virtual cyclon mindspace just as the cylons are capable of doing themselves. so it may be that Kara is not a cylon, yet she possesses the same ability. this would explain some of the weird bio experiments the cylons had planned to use her for in season 2 when she returned to Caprica.

the most likely explanation at this point is the raider ship somehow saved her. or else she really did die. it would be quite a bizarre way to handle killing off a main character if that is the case. building up all that stuff about her having a destiny, only to reveal that the destiny was to kick much ass and then fly into a hole and explode? wtf?

LA la LA LA la LA! Still not listening!

Watched BSG season 2.0, episode 9: "Flight of the Phoenix", last night. Some... interesting developments. I'm not sure I like the whole "plug Sharon into the computer and she can disable the entire Cylon fleet" thing, or her ability to determine the entire operation of a program by staring for ten seconds at a two page hexdump. Seems too convenient.

I did like the idea of exploring how different characters dealt with Sharon. A couple of times I have been put off by everyone's gung-ho hatred of the cylons, but then I remember that they nuked twelve planets full of people into oblivion...

Just keeping you up to date on my progress. I'll join the conversation when I've finished watching everything I can.

I feel like the comic-book store guy, but I find some of the apparent inconsistencies jarring.

Early on Helo (?) blows away cylon centurions with his sidearm on Caprica. Later, in the invasion episode, it takes explosive rounds. Specially hardened centurions for invasion... maybe.

A lot is made in season one about how cylons are indistinguishable from humans, even with a normal medical scan. BUT, now you can plug them into an optical cable. Fancy nano-technology that can reconfigure itself from flesh and bone into an optical cable socket? Well then, why are they so easy to kill? Shouldn't they be like the T1000 or something? I rather liked the idea that they might even be engineered/cloned humans, but the glowing spine sort of nixes that idea, I guess.

The cylons could disable all the human ships in the mini-series because they had back doors built into the software over years, but then Sharon can do the same thing to them with basically no preparation. The cylons don't bother protecting their systems from attack because the humans are too stupid to figure out how to do it, or is Sharon a super-hacker even by cylon standards? That's what I meant by too convenient. The mini-series idea was cool because it was plausible, but super-Sharon is getting close to being too much...

Comic-book-guy rant over, for now.

perhaps Helo was packing explosive rounds?

there has been no satisfactory explanation for how Sharon could stick a cable into her arm and interface with a computer. then again, even the Raiders have biomechnical innards for flight control, so perhaps her ports look organic under normal medical scans and would require surgical forensic techniques to identify.....

perhaps Sharon is not a super hacker, but just a regular cylon, with full access to the cylon systems. machines fuck up all the time so perhaps they never considered the idea that a cylon would work for the humans and use their access for a counter-attack.....

the cylons are very advanced but they still are far from perfect. they make mistakes, they have disagreements even. keep watching, more of how the cylons view the humans shows up in later episodes and might answer some of your questions.....

Har har! But one of the things I like about the series is that they don't do that sort of thing... much... too much.

Oh yeah, another one. In the mini-series (I think), when Galactica is damaged they have to open some sections to vacuum-- cue SFX of bodies flying out into space. Tigh comments that if they followed their training they would have their helmets closed and could be picked up (or some such comment). BUT, in the invasion episode the entire thing hinges on them not being able to survive if Galactica's atmosphere is vented to space. Are there no spacesuits on this spaceship?

I still love the show, though.
