can't find digitalprimate's old thread but i suspect it's inactive anyways. here's 2.0.

rules:

all words made up.
word creator picks winner.
new winner creates new word.
repeat.

the first word is grognonomaticular

grog-no-no-ma-tic-u-lar – of or pertaining to the classification of various ‘low’ alcoholic drinks, especially rum diluted with water, sometimes referred to as ‘grog’, also coming from the Latin root ‘nomenclator’: a slave who accompanied his master to tell him the names of people he met, or ‘namer’.

That's right it needed a winner to pick the new word!

I say we do it 'caption this photo' style, where once there've been a few tries we just post a new one.

grognonomaticular pronounced rononor (the g, the n, the m, the second g, the t, the c, the i, both a's, both r's and the u are silent. And so is the l.). adj. 1. Of or about the height of drunken elves. e.g. The plinth was a grognonomaticular distance from the ground. 2. Obs. Describing the width of a cooper's thumb after a month's barrel-making for the laird.

gro-g-non-om-ati-cul-ar

In 2002 a brutal murder, or 'cull', of most of ATI's Canada staff by pissed-off nVidia employees shocked the world. In a twisted celebration of the liquidation of their opponents, the CEOs of nVidia crafted a NEW WORD. It was a gloriously Anglo-Saxon esque sound, the words 'ati cul(l)' sandwiched by sounds sifted from the choice screams of death of the ati scum. It was a difficult choice, but the screams eventually used were 'gro<chop>ss', 'g<slice>aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa', 'non<splosh!>', 'om<bang!>ygod!' and, best of all, 'ar<pow>rrrrrggggghhhhhh!'.

Poor bastards. At least no-one will forget them now. The dastardly nVidia fell victim to a whitewash monopolies' commission investigation some 6 months later, where the exectutives were given free cups of tea and asked for autographs.

Well, I hate to disagree with my esteemed colleagues, but they are, naturally, wrong. This word is actually a poor translation from an even more poor German transliteration of a Sanskrit word discovered while the late 19th century German philologists were studying the Pali Cannon. The original word - and forgive me, I don't have the Sanskrit font installed - indicated the practice whereby devote Buddhists of some means were able to ingest ceremonial meals containing, reputedly, tiny pulverized fragments of various bones of the Buddha found in shrines in Sri Lanka and later in Thailand and Laos. The word was appropriated by English naval officers early in the 20th century, and came to indicate a brilliant action committed by one who was drunk and on duty. As this was a court marshal worthy offence, the word meant a brilliant stroke of luck and genius combing to produce and against the odds result. It is now archaic and used primarily by Malaysian pirates in the Malacca Straight to indicate a big pirate catch.

All marvelous, but as usual RobW has bent you all over and reamed you [SC I like it].

New word? I want to make up a new definition. My roots incidentally were entirely real and not made up at all, so my definition isn't all that cool actually.

The great thing about that pic: we can easily tell who the bitch is in that couple.

Imagine: A thousand Buddhist eyes staring at you from across a rice-paddy field, the zeal and hunger in their eyes. And one lifts his fist high in the air, raising the battlecry, "EMBRACE THE TAO!!!!" Then organized chaos ensues.
