Gah, just found out the other quote thread was closed. Meh.

How's this for current consideration?
(Our Senate is hopeless, imho.)

Endless money forms the sinews of war.

Although pissy at the moment, I rather love hearing the thoughts of others. Just saying, and don't think I don't edit the bozos.

From Alexis Zorbas (the movie, though the book is also great):

quote:
God has a very big heart but there is one sin he will not forgive
[slaps table]
If a woman calls a man to her bed and he will not go. I know because a very wise old Turk told me.

quote:
Life is trouble. Only death is not. To be alive is to undo your belt and *look* for trouble.

quote:
Am I not a man? And is a man not stupid? I'm a man, so I married. Wife, children, house, everything. The full catastrophe.

Enjoying Mikis Theodorakis' soundtrack.

This is interesting, as an elder-former nudist. What a concept. I am now practicing "slapping" to see what comes near.

The atom bomb is a paper tiger which the United States reactionaries use to scare people. It looks terrible, but in fact it isn't.

Weapons are an important factor in war, but not the decisive one; it is man and not materials that counts.

Reminds me of

"Quantity has a quality all its own"
Stalin (when the Soviet army was criticized for its poor quality.)

It is easy to say this when you don't care how many troops you lose.

JRE, I loved the movie and the book, too. There's also Christ Recrucified (which I think is nearly as good as Zorba) and The Last Temptation. Kazantzakis is such a lucid writer - I mean the writing is like a fable rather than a novel, and always, always, tragic.
