RobW, sorry, but antitrust was defined eons ago, sometime around McKinnely, who the Republicans abohor, so Microsoft knew the rules and decided to ignore them. They suppress technology, because nobody will create anything that will run in Windows, because Microsoft has a history of theft of IP and the stiffing of partners. If you do business with Microsoft, you will be put out of business by Microsoft. I know plenty of people who have the capability, but don't see the point, of creating products that work with Microsoft.
Sorry, but Microsoft and its employees are not being punished. They could have been, but they wrote the consent decree and will use it to kill Linux. As for Ann Rand's "I" is for individual ideology, an ideology that is as destructive as communism or worse if communism wasn't, it isn't the geeks that matter. It is that the "individual" is the way of the mainstream. Rush's line about feeling sorry for the rich points this out. Individualism is designed into our cars. It is even hard to find a truck with a bench seat. So our cars are no longer family cars. They are cars for individuals. Our neighborhoods are just houses, not homes. Our neighborhoods are not communities, just housing. Or wife is just a person we sleep with until our joint individualism pulls us apart. And, people are becoming increasingly disconnected. Where does this lead? To more govermental control, because are now divided and unable to stand against that control. We are no longer an America of communities. We are an America of individuals and we are weaker for it. David |

Wow, Dave, that's a hella-cool irony-blocker you've got there.
A-a-anyway, is there anybody who actually likes MS who wants to go into bat for them on this one? Or Ayn Rand for that matter (never read a syllable of her work myself but I've read people who think she's the bee's knees and they all seem like tossers so, y'know, I drew my own conclusions)? |

quote: The end of civilisation as we know it! You know, I think you're onto something here. The bench seat's dead or dying. You can't get them in cars any more and if they've been banished from trucks there's obviously a fiendish plot at work. They'll be outlawing gun-racks and pit bulls soon if we don't watch out. Last time I was on a plane everyone had their own seat, you hardly ever see bench seats in restaurants and by golly when I went to the movies the other night everyone sat IN THEIR OWN SEAT!!! Individualism's taking over by stealth, and it's not good enough. Let's rebuild our sense of community, people. Ditch your office chairs for designer pews. Let's have benches in barber shops. Texans can hold mass executions on chummy electric benches. Double the size of operating tables for real togetherness. The Mob are already doing their bit. We have to chuck out the chair and throw out the throne. Benches rule! [This message was edited by Gromit on October 08, 2003 at 11:20 PM.] |

... been to a movie theatre with love seats? They use to have them. Damn fine idea if you ask me. I like bench seats too in cars and trucks. Easier to get comfortable, if you ask me. I don't mean that people are fat, either.
