When I read Sitchin's Twelfth Planet as a teen, I remember going instantly to my sketchpad and envisaging the perfect movie marquee and logotype. It struck me that the highly eccentric postulated orbit of Nibiru tied perfectly into Sitchin's botched interpretations of Assyrian astrological reliefs -- that his paleocontact cosmogony explained away every aspect of our modern culture. ("Is modern science catching up with ancient knowledge?" went the scandalous grab-line).

I drew the words themselves and made a special "T" in "Twelfth" -- a Latin crucifix overlaying Sitchin's hypothesized solar system. The symmetrical Greek cross (known science's solar system) has one spoke elongated (the cometary Nibiru orbit), making the shape we know. It was all very pre-Da Vinci Code hidden-history revisionism, yet on a Metazoan scale.

Here's a bad Paint reconstruction of the T.

Nonsense, of course, but I hope a mildly interesting diversion.

As I remember, the original anti-science New Age orthodoxy posited a Nibiru return something approximating 600 years from now. Now they've truncated it to accommodate their latest fetish, the Baktun. Pitiful.

2003! There's a fantastic and deeply disturbing chronology somewhere of eschaton-schedules past and present. They've been banging the pots on this one a long time.

I'm curious if you remember the fringe-sci hype over "5/5/2000". There was even a so-titled book (epic-style typeface over a schoolroom globe swathed in furious flames, the standard imagery, etc).

the end of the world in 2012 will be signified in London by the public transport network failing, total traffic gridlock in East London and a complete lack of drug addicts and prostitutes.

Well, its either the end of the world or the Olympics causing it all.. Wink

Bravus, this is a great thread. We are spinning into a whole new reality, aren't we? And when 2012 comes and we aren't all dead, there will be no Apocalypse left except the return of Christ. Or the Anti-Christ. Not to push Chinese shit or anything.
