I don't have any skillz though.

Tell me this: How difficult is it to make a flash movie?

Shit.

I have an example but you can't link to it directly, hold on.

Go here: http://www.mk12.com/

Click on the Mk 12 logo in the circle.

Click on Work.

Click on Motion.

Click on In House.

Click on Sunkenlust.

Now, granted the design aesthetic is high concept and out of my league perhaps, but how hard would it be to knock it off?

Anyone know?

I want to do something for YouTube.

It would be pretty time consuming for someone who already had good knowledge of their toolset....

I wouldn't say it was a beginner project....

This looks more like AE to me, which can output Flash files.

AE is sorta like Photoshop with a timeline, so if you are already proficient with Photoshop and simple video editing concepts, you can combine those skills to learn AE and reproduce this kind of work....

Really depends on the abilities of the maker, but Flash isn't astrophysics (necessarily) once you get over the learning curve, After Effects is a little more involved but not too bad. The animation there looks pretty basic cropping/camera shifts with a bunch of layering and lighting effects, a few ink animation things... The hardest part might be getting all the images right and getting them to look right together in the compositing.

Ube, if you are willing to share some of the glory, or offer some post sale payment, there are some hungry artists over at Digital Webbing

All the effects and stuff in that... yeah, it's AE or some other digital editor. Flash is more vector animation usually. Plus, that was actually a video not a .swf file (it loads and plays in Quicktime).

BTW, that site is NOT well done, imho.
1-The entire interface is Flash, which loses a lot in favor of animation. Right-click only shows you some simple Flash options--no downloads, saves, open link in new window.
2-They conflict with pop-up blockers because they are trying to do a pop-under window as well as the one that shows the movie.

Basically, that site is all about pissing off the discerning web user by the time they're done trying to use it.

The problem is I just am trying to make a trailer to get buzz going to attract agents to my novel.

I don't think anyone has ever made a book trailer for a book before it was sold or repped.

I am trying to make a trailer for my novel in order to get agent interest. Normally the trailer is designed to get reader interest but I need an agent first.

I don't have any gin.

I made a mock-up but I don't know where or how you host that mind of thing.

It's a design firm, it really isn't meant for the likes of us. Not for public consumption, it's an industry portfolio presence type thing.

most importantly, don't let the promotion of the book distract from writing, itself.

Well, the book is done. Has been for a bit. Now I need representation so I can sell it.

I actually got a famous author to agree to read it.

That might help a lot.
