Hey Bravus, that Opeth gig debacle made the Channel 10 news.

K3wlness - hopefully the mess has meant exposure, which can mean a better venue. Apparently Mikael said on stage at the show that they'll be back in 8 months and do an all ages show then. (But Cass will be over 18 by then anyway so it will be easier in case they can't.)

Sadly, the people who tend to take the time to do interpretation videos generally have crap taste in music. First page on YouTube yields:

Trivium, Slipknot, As I Lay Dying, AFI, Nickelback, Mika(!)

Carcass - Heartwork

The Arena's not a bad venue, it's just that it keeps getting fucked over by forces not within its control.

The Parkway Drive fuck-knucklery, liquor licencing, smoking laws (which worked about as well as an ashtray on a motorbike) and the fucking gentrification of the fucking Valley have all conspired against it.

And given the fact it's host to bands that are somewhat (erroneously) infamous for antisocial behaviour, it's gotten the rather short end of a very shitty stick. Coupled with the simply enormous, tectonic pressure to get the place shut down, sold off and turned into a venue friggin' Operator Please or Darren Hayes would play, The Arena is verily an underdog. (Look what happened to Festival Hall.)

I've got a soft spot for it. Saw my first proper gig there (Vai!) as well as Satch and BLS. Shot my first proper, international gig photos there (Helloween - I've still got the Press Pass.)

Granted, it's got the acoustics of a council dunny, but still, I'd rather The Arena stay open.

My main worry about it this time, though, is that Cass is only about 5'2", and wouldn't have been able to go upstairs to the bar, so she'd have been struggling to see (and it would be just weird to sit on your Dad's shoulders at a gig, we both agreed). Somewhere shortarses can see would work better, although having said that she'll be 18 next time so whatever.
