Indeed! We got there on the 5th and just got back yesterday. 10 (11?) days in Florence. Well, one of them was in Siena, another in a couple of smaller hill towns and a winery). Glorious. We did a couple B&Bs (one next to the Baptistry, one a block from Santa Croce) and a hotel (Torre Guelfa, in what's left of the Acciaiuolis' palazzo and tower). Hell of a town, eh?

I didn't spend as much time at the Uffizi as I'd have wished. The crowd was nuts. I couldn't stand it for more than a couple hours. One of my little regrets from the trip.

You need to be there. With one of your splendid cameras. We had camera troubles while there, so not as many pics as I'd like. It's honestly not so terribly expensive once you get there. If you wanted to do it cheaply, you could do it relatively cheaply.

Except for the fucking airlines. And it probably would be pretty hard to force yourself to live on cheese sandwiches when the real food is so incredible. The gnocchi just melt in your mouth.

Word to the wise, though: Don't eat the pigeon. Granted, I can now say I've eaten pigeon. But just eat some oily, chalky liver and you can say you've had the experience.

I'll buy a life insurance policy for a QE3 ticket....
