I'm going to go for it again; it looks like my page has carried over all my writing buddies, so I will be looking to y'all for encouragement.

I need to do better than last year.

best,
Chris H

I've been toying with using it to try and write yet another sequel, but I have a strong feeling I won't have enough time to focus on it properly this November.

I can't decide! On one hand I should probably work on things I actually care about instead of writing a novel. On the other hand I sort of have an idea and it might be so fun. On the other other hand it would mean so much staring at a computer screen.

Maybe. We'll see.

Last ear I wrote a novel that wound up being about 740 pages during Nanowrimo. I edited it down and polished it.

Now I'm editing another novel which is only about 400 pages.

But it won't be done in time to do Nanowrimo again.

Still, it got me to write that novel last year and that was huge.

I cannot remember, did anyone here do this last year? I mean, did anyone finish it?

Did you edit the book after?

And so on.

i gave last year a miss. i have finished it twice in the past.
i have attempted to some degree to edit. and usually found that the results are such a mess that i've given up.

though, i have extracted parts as short stories and edited them into more workable sections.

in two minds about doing it this year. still same issues about strain to hands/wrists in the time scale. though its also an opportunity to focus and drive. my account has been reactivated anyway.

I finished it the year before last but failed to even begin last year. I plan to finish it this year though. In fact I've got a funny feeling that I've not posted on the WGB since chatting about NaNoWriMo '07.

yeah i don't think we've seen you here since about this time last year. similarly i did nothing last year, which was a shame because i had a decent idea. i guess i could use that this year, but it doesn't feel right just now.

I still have four hours to decide whether I'm going to do anything.

Maybe I could use it to edit my novel which is at, I dunno, over 100,000 words, likely...

I have to take that stupid GRE fist though.

i've got my first day's word count done to keep to the appropriate schedule. did half of it before going to bed at 2am. overslept till about noon, though that was part laziness, part fatigue, and part bloodymindedness after the neighbours making a hell of a noise at 8am. still just passed 2pm and i've got the count. got other stuff to do, so think i'll hit some of that, then come back for more words.

So help me, I've started. Word count 2019 so far, taking a break but need to get to >3000 before the end of the day. Looks like I'm either writing something set in the later throes of the Singularity, or writing gibberish. I'm not sure which.

best

Sounds like an excuse, but November is usually the busiest month of the year for me, with all the student assignments in all the courses I teach needing to be marked.

Maybe I'll have a little nanowrimo of my own in January or something...

i think there are nano-alternatives that cover other months. though not sure when.

went to write-in yesterday having missed the kick-off one on saturday. though having hit word count saturday i ended up 200 words short yesterday. too much talking - some novel related as some people had freak outs, but a good deal of just geekery as well, which was fun, but not helpful.

there is another write-in tonight, which will probably be a different group of people. though, now more than ever, i feel need for something like the EEE so i'm not typing it up all the time.

I tried it for the first time last year, which was a big step for me, because in my teen years I always wanted to be a writer. I used to write many little stories with different ideas, but I stopped for about 10 years.

This year I have taken a better approach and I really feel that I can complete the 50000 words no problem. What I am concerned about is the content of my work.

Honestly, when I started brain storming I was very excited. Scribbling down anything that came to mind and my idea was awesome. Then I realized, wait a minute, I think this is something I could see Gibson writing about, and actually he has to some extent. Although I am not copying him, I do see a lot of similarity in my idea and what I am picturing in my head to books I have read by him.

Now of course I am faced with a horrible realization. I am NOT Gibson... and I can't write as good as him. My style is horrible. I love what I am seeing in my head but not what is coming out of my fingers.

This is not what Nanowrimo is about. It is about getting it all out in a short amount of time and then going back to revise and fix it later. What is happening to me is I am starting not to like what I am writing. I'm embarrassed that I cannot do better and my story is feeling like some kind of teen novel. My main character is a college student so I don't think that is helping. The technology in my story is not very well described or even cool.

I was thinking of sharing the plot of my story, but I have ranted on so much already. Thanks for letting me have a place to just let it all out.

BTW! Current word count is 3755, but I didnt write yet today. I'm distracting myself...

BTW again! I'll give you guys my nano related blog link. BLOG LINK HERE

Unless the words vomit, wash, wipe, feed and change repeated 10,000 times count, I think I'm going to be busy this month.

my memory is a little hazey, but i'm sure in paris in casual conversation i asked gibson about his writing. seeking reassurance that those sentences of his do not form first time and perfect on the page. as i recall he assured me they didn't, that he were drafted and revised as much as anyone. nano is your sketch, your draft, not your end product.

target for today = 6668 words.
my word count as of 8am 4th = 3891
so. some catching up to do.
