Man Ray, Yevgeni Khaldei and Pigozzi and the Paparazzi. And the Newton exhibition as well.

That's what we visited today.

Khaldei was really awesome. Good photographer, crafty retoucher and good storyteller. Saw the camera Robert Capa gave him.

So. I've lost some pictures on my laptop, may be able to recover, may not, but damn that sucks!

Anyway.

Lille:

For Pigkilla: the Hello Kitty manicure set (sort of pink Dremel tool with attachments), a bargain at €59:

I've never noticed George Clooney doing coffee ads in North America...?

This was noteworthy only inasmuch as they were all children's boots. Trendy-ass-children's boots.

Keanu movie ad in the Lille metro:

Radiohead at Kindl-Bühne Wuhlheide. Notice the steam rising from the rather warm, previously poured upon crowd:

A little bit of Canada available in Berlin. Caribou, bronze, yours for only €4,900.

BABYLON at the Pergamon:

The warning outside the Pergamon that some of the images in the exhibition were not suitable for children under 18. Hasa and I were intrigued.

It was the snake I was trying to portray, honestly.

Not something you see everyday in my part of the world:

The lamp in the tearoom at the Gorki Theatre

And the tea:

My fantastic guide, complete with umbrella drink. Thanks so very much for spending the time Smile

And I have a few more pictures on my camera but can't be arsed just now.

Berlin was great. It's a huge city, and so much to see! I could easily spend another couple of weeks there.

Smile

My family all lived in Berlin before I was born (they moved back 6 months before I was born, unaware of my impending existence!).. lived there for about 5 or 6 years in total. I'd love to go there with my Mum to hear all the stories!

Found the meringues as big as your head in Bruges:

Lille: the Musée des Beaux-Arts or whatever it's called.

My friend:

Clouds and old building:

There are cannonballs from a seige in the 18th c (by the Dutch) in this building wall:

Ch'ti, the local beer in Lille;

My friend, and this is the less-blurry picture LOL.

Rain clouds above Arras' Main Square:

Stage prep for Sigur Ros:

Gare de Lille Flandres, which used to be the Gare du Nord in Paris!

The Hello Kitty store in Lille was closed due to a (Hello Kitty?) Convention!

Berlin, Die Aerzte:

Looks like a wonderful time, my dear. Welcome back to North America. I visit the continent vicariously through you, until the Autumn.

How many watches were on the banner-waver's wrist in the Reichstag photo?

And we know he was, but did they have to emphasise it in his name?

It wasn't the banner-waver's wrist, it was the right wrist of the guy below him with his hands on the stone thing.

They showed how that picture was manipulated: even the smoke was imported.

You have to have respect for someone who could spend days in a darkroom working through boxes and boxes of photography paper trying to finally come out with a photo that looks like that. Sure takes a lot more skill then just firing up the ol' photoshop.

On the other hand, there's the whole journalism ethics angle to think of.

Still, i really admire the craftsmanship.

Both those questions are answered by the fact that the whole time there was a nice little man from the NKVD holding a Tokarev on the darkroom technichian. Actually holding, or metaphorically holding, eh, makes no difference.

It's not like the soldier was wrong to take the watches, far from it - it was that he didn't distribute them to the proletariat fast enough.
