Against the Stars (1997) by Dambuilders

Of the three Dambuilders albums (Encendedor, Ruby Red, and Against the Stars), Ruby Red is the better. The second half of Against the Stars is a contender, but it does not have as many enjoyable tracks. I'll only listen to Encendor that once.

I have three Albums by The Dambuilders. Geek Lust, Islington Porn Tapes and Ruby Red. Ruby Red pales in Comparison with the first two.

emmy the great - first love - debut album from emmy and co. just out this week. bit of a weird experience, i've seen her live 3 times in the last 18 months, and she is playing again saturday. so i have a familiarity with the material already. though the gigs have ranged from band to stripped down acoustic, and the album has like the finished versions of the material. smart poppy anti-folk kind of stuff. covers regina spektor and pixies live, and has a track dedicated to MIA.

I like duets. kaRIN sounds a bit hoarse. White Rabbit the Grace Slick cover is my fave track.

All Songs Considered - They did their valentine's show of lesser known love songs. Love when they discuss the music. Just good quality radio... even on a podcast.

Zerospace (2002) by Kidneythieves

Another duet with lots of potential that faded away.

Dominguez was heard from when they provided part of the soundtrack for the last Deus Ex: Invisible War video game.

A real treat on this album is the alt-metal treatment of Patsy Cline's (1932-1963) Crazy.

Opheliac (2008) by Emilie Autumn

Steampunk soundtrack?

Usually I stay away from the crap listened to by tween-girl children. However, I was asked to listen to this. I had to put aside the theatrics and insipid costuming.

The chamber-pop tracks are not bad. At a couple of points I though she might be channeling Gilbert and Sullivan. Then there are quiet a few Cyndi Lauper-esque crap tracks.

I like Opheliac, except for the couple tracks where she choruses the same word 10000x times. The "my god" and "liar" songs come to mind. Those I usually skip. I've heard Enchanted is also worthy of a listen.

What is the demographic for Emilie Autumn? I can't pin it down.

I'm not sure, she seems one of those musicians who could attract a pretty broad spectrum of listeners. I'm a 27-year old male, if that helps. Then again, I listen to everything from The Cure and Bruce Springsteen to Godsmack and Seether, so maybe it doesn't help after all.

Powerglide (2008) [Remastered] by The New Riders of the Purple Sage

Country-Acid-Rock circa 1972.

Borrowed this from an old dude at work. I think he's in his 50s. He said he used to follow the Dead around on their tours smoke pot, drink wine, and boff Brown-eyed girls in wrap-around skirts. Did that era ever happen?

I forgot how much I like pedal steel guitar.

Best track: the Johnny Otis cover Willie and the Hand Jive.
