Actually, the video I posted of his talk was the first time I had registered the name, although apparently I've been seeing and noticing his book covers for a long time. Very talented, and a very entertaining speaker.

Many of the 50's & 60's modernist treatises were bound by reliably typographical essays -- one of my favorites,

at first, you'll think, "now aren't Mickey Spillane's covers suitably cheeky, too?" -- The answer is no -- to my tastes. They're a bit generic.
