Some avatars just annoy me so much that I can't help myself, and end up making an alternative file for the owner.

This thread is dedicated to giving avatar assistance to the graphically challenged.

For Heavy Messing

I've resized your avatar and turned it into a transparent gif so that it works on both the white and grey background.

I generally turn off viewing of avatars and sigs in my options for message boards that support it.

Ha! Try having to do that for a living... why, if I receive another file with a 300dpi, 14x10 cms., multi-megabyte TIFF photo, positioned and scaled (in the layout program, not in PShop...) so it ends up as a 3cms. miniature in a printed page, I... will... start smashing things again... *sigh*

Really bored. I gotta ask, David do you do get really bored? I can't manage it. I have tried. given it a serious go, my motivations are always to compelling for boredom.. Oh no doubt what facinates me would bore a magnitude (dude.) of people. , Can't say I have ever been bored though... hmmWink

i believe splitcoil could use a little of that kind of help there.

what annoys me are excessively animated avatars. are we supposed to look at the avatar or what you wrote? i'm sorry anabel, but your avatar really sucks.

i would watch myself, fashionpolice has an animated avatar, although it is quite subtle and astheticly pleasing.

Well, I get your message, but now reealy want to launch the avatar I did not choose. It was a jumping image.
Still, if my current avatar is disturbing, perhaps we should lose its flicker qualities, or my face entirely, and find a real "avatar." Or just freeze frame.....
Hmmm? Suggestions? Really, this avatar stuff is another art-form. I am really curious about this, and totally ignorant.

That's exactly what the flood protection does.

Those who don't post-pump probably have no idea what I'm talking about Smile

It was a dark and stormy night.. (you all sitting comfortably?)... The street light across the way was flashing on and off creating weird shadows in the corners of the buildings. I was involved with a scam concerning the local mob and was wondering what I needed to do next. Then it hit me. My avatar was too small. (and Giger's estate had threatened to shove a chest burster down my gullet if I didn't change the pic). I needed something that would transmit my other worldliness and my sense of fun, and then I found it (it was French but, hey, any port in a storm). As quick as a flash I selected, copied, pasted, setup, and ... woahhhhhh.. another small avatar.. were these things out to get me, were my investigations beginning to annoy someone? I pulled my hat further over my eyes and then wondered why I was wearing my hat indoors. I took it off and looked around for a handy chunk of software that I could mod the avatar with. But my days of having a full service graphic and deck shop were gone, as gone as the dead leaves blowing down the street under the arcing streetlight. I found Paint. It was all I had and I'd have to grit my teeth and get on with it. I made it larger and got it rigged. Only then did I notice.... it wasn't transparent. I threw the desk lamp across the room, shattering the green glass shade in a thousand shards that twinkled like emeralds on my carpet. I'd fix it another day. the bad guys were out there and they weren't going to hang around for a re-jigged avatar. Maybe an angel would help me out, but I'd never met an angel yet on theose grim, brutal streets. I'd learnt long ago not to rely on anyone else to get you out of a scrape.... but all that was about to change...........

(to be continued. Our hero is helped out by a bulletin board angel in disguise and another body turns up in the East River)

PS. Thanks FP. Smile

Klik, you're doing just fine. Smile

I'm currently hosting Anabel's avatar, so I'm just going to leave it as it is.

The non-transparent background on Splitcoil's avatar (which has been resized) has never bothered me.
