I have a leather bound, gilded, first edition book of H.P. Lovecraft stories. The most amusing thing is that somebody seems to have bled on several of the pages.

The unspeakable horror! Big Grin

Just bought first edition hardbacks of UBIK and The Man in the High Castle. They're very strange covers. The UBIK cover reminds me of Vonnegut illustrations.

Images courtesy of philipkdickfans.com and thephilkdickian.com, who both have some VERY satisfying bibliophilic data. I'd like to make a similar repository for the late, great Bester.

I'm currently pricing out my archaeology
collection because I'm thinking about getting it
insured. So far, the journal issues alone are over
$1k. This is going to hurt.

In the good news, I've finally managed to track
down a copy of Paul Radin's The Hero Cycles.

i never was one to care much about 1st editions. when i have them, it's usually more out of coincidence than by design. i was on a delany collecting spree 2-3 years ago, and it was usually easier to find 1st editions than not.

of course, when it comes to delany, you usually don't want the 1st edition. the later editions are more correct, and/or have been extensively re-written. this is why i have also a later edition of the jewels of aptor, and i searched high and low for a revised version of the motion of light in water. i'm pondering whether to invest in a new version of the mad man, now in it's third version...

In one of my classes we're studying Karen Tei Yamashita's Tropic of Orange (excellent book by the way). The guy who sits next to me bought his copy used online, and discovered that his copy is signed by the author. Our professor geeked out on it in a totally non-cynical and endearing fashion when he showed it to her.
