The Thalys will get you from Paris to Amsterdam in four hours. Ofcourse, it wont be exactly cheap, but you'll speed along the scenery at a cool 190 mph.

Ah, but speed is not always everything. It would be preferable to take a train that took all night. That way we can sleep on it. As for cost, we've gotten a couple of unlimited travel euro passes, so transit is covered.

ah, the interrail (or eurorail, i'm not sure what it's called if you're from outside) thing.

The Thalys most likely isn't included in that. Hmm... i don't know if there's a regular (sloooow) InterCity going between the two cities.

Oh and remember what I said in my email, in Munich the beer halls Augustiner and Hofbrauhaus are great places for cheap, hearty food. I also hear they have beer there.

The chat's current location is in paris. I'm bitchingly jet lagged right now, I haven't slept in over 24 hours, but I'm going to bed soon. Sleep will be a beautiful thing. The plane flight over was long, and while a lot like purgatory, not bad for flying. It was nice to get to use my french again. I'm sitting in my friends 12x9 one room student place, Its gonna be like packing sardines to sleep all three of us in here tonight. From the window I can look out and see the Eiffel Tower. Its al lit up right now. We wandered by earlier and I was struck by how out of place it felt to me. It seems like an apparition from the Gernsback continum, a strange artefact of a future that never was. Its a very curious feeling to actually encounter that.

I was going to call Arkan and see if he wanted to go out tonight, but the death lag pretty much precludes any activity beyond dinner. You can get a bottle of wine for o.92 euro here! its fantastic (the price, the wines pretty bad). We have however decided to stay tomorow night, and leave for amsterdam early on the 22nd, So hopefully tomorow will be more active.

If the post is totally incoherent my apologies. I'll sort things out properly tomorow, or whenever I can post again. The internet at my friends is really dodgy, as he piggy backs on other networks. Excited but exhausted right now, so off to bed.

Sounds like you are having a good time at least. I understand the lag, good food and sleep was the only cure I found (food cures everything with me I find) French wine.... we had a waiter in Austria this year who compared French wine to vinegar, unfavorably at that.

I wish we were there now (although not in the sardine can room)

Later

(take lots of pics, it is kind of a tradition you know)

Table wine - best wine when depressed. You cheer up immediately if you stop drinking it.

Chat-dude : if you'd like to meet with the us's this evening, try calling me this afternoon.

We planned on going to the movies. But if you're there, we'd rather show you around.

Well, as travel writer Rick Steves says about Amsterdam, "Try the pot! It's fantastic!"

Dude... he's from B.C. ^^

It was a very nice evening indeed.
As usual when meeting people from the WGB, I tend to find the conversation much more interesting than with regular meatspace folks.

What a shame.

That we'll not connect.
And that you won't see any of the nordic countries. (We have relatives and friends there.)

Monsieur Arkan and every other WGBer in the area of Paris. With Chat gone, I would like to go back to the original plan; get there on Friday afternoon the 29th of September and leave on Saturday at lunch time.

Anybody who wants to meet us (that includes my better half) there, send me an email to:
paris29 [at] xresearch (dot) net
till Thursday and you will receive further instruction.

@ Arkan,
Our route brings us directly into Paris on the A11 and A4 and we will have to have dinner somewhere, so I might give you a call anyway.

Do you have any recommandation for where to meet next Friday?
Apollo maybe?

Excellent idea!
I haven't been there since the initial Parisian WGB meeting.

You mean, tonight?
We'll probably be at the movie theater until 20:00.
If you're okay for dinner after that, then it's fine.
Just call me and leave a message to let me know.

Tomorrow, Saturday the 23rd.

No worries, I will give you a call when we are close by and then we will see.

Yea, I imagine the pot in amsterdam is more expensive than BC bud, and I'd be surprised if it was better. But I'm a little biased, regional pride and all.

So I have this theory. The Australians are getting revenge. In retaliation for us using them as a penal colony to begin with they are now exiling all the most obnoxious and druken members of their society to the rest of the world. most of them appear to be chooosing europe voluntairly. This also explains why the country is so damn empty, they are all here, and thay are making asses of themselves.
