Every month I buy about 6-10 albums to listen to. I create the list during the previous month from the suggestions of friends, things I hear and read about from media sources (including the Intar-Web). During the month, I add an album or two.

The following are the albums I've ripped to my iPhone for July listening. I don't have any personal opinions on these albums yet, but your comments would be appreciated. Especially, tracks that you think I should pay particular attention to.

The albums roughly into their area of interest this month, which is:
"¢ Jazz
"¢ Alternative Rock
"¢ Alternative Country
"¢ Caberet
"¢ Celtic

The Anthology (2008) by Return to Forever

One of the first Jazz groups I listened to when learning about Jazz.

@#%&*! Smilers (Special Edition) (2008) by Aimee Mann

Been a fan since the 'Till Tuesday days.

Get Awkward [EXPLICIT LYRICS] (2007) by Be Your Own Pet

Recommended by the Dude who runs the pre-owned record/head shop I habituate as something I might like.

I See Red - EP (2007) by Uh Huh Her

FLAC recording I downloaded from their label. A duo I've been following who will release their first CD in August.

Midnight Boom (2008) by The Kills

Sometimes I really like their recordings, sometimes I don't.

Viva La Vida (2008) by Coldplay

Have not listened to them since Rush of Blood to the Head.

Blacklisted (2002) by Neko Case

Artist on The Great One's play list and recommended by WigBer's.

A Is for Accident [EP] (2005) by The Dresden Dolls

Completes the catalog of this phenomenal duet for me.

Spirit Of The Glen (2008) by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

Sent to me by a mate to remind me there is more to Celtic music than ethereal female vocals. (I think I'll get him a Claymore for Christmas.)

At Home (1999) by Cherish The Ladies

Ethereal Celtic female vocals.

In July I'm going to listen to every song by Belle & Sebastian, but I'm not going to start now because there are two days left in June.

I jumped the gun, and listened to Uh Huh Her's "I See Red". I think the first track "Explode" is really good.

A tedious but fun filled endeavor. I like "Stars of Track and Field" "Consuelo" and "Consuelo Leaving" especially. I am very fond of their amazing instrumentation.

After their one-two punch of If You're Feeling Sinister and The Boy with the Arab Strap I lost interest in them.

Oddly, I've never heard Tigermilk from beginning to end. Its supposed to be better than the above.

Imperial Teen - Seasick
This is the band Roddy Bottum formed after Faith No More broke up. Slutty sounding sugary pop rock.

Jazz. I have not listened to RtF in a long time. This series goes only to about 1978 getting to Romantic Warrior. This sounds really old-fashioned to me now, especially the xylophones. Listenable, but only of historical value.

Best Track: "Song of the Pharaoh Kings"

@#%&*! Smilers (Special Edition) (2008) by Aimee Mann

Alt Rock. This is a typical Aimee Mann solo album. It reminds me terribly of Magnolia: The Soundtrack which despite the coprophilic Supertramp tracks remains my favorite Mann album. I'm also a bit diappointed that Mann was not a bit different in this album.

Best Track: "Freeway"

Waving your dick in the wind Boog?

I gave the new Nick Cave album a listen and pronounce it good, although I need more time with it to really get into it. Also the new Girl Talk album is entertaining.

A Is for Accident [EP] (2005) by The Dresden Dolls

Cabaret. I've heard all of these before. Although some of the cuts are live. Funny how a live version can sound so different from the recorded version. "Chrisopher Lydon", a meh song shines. "Coin Operated Boy", a fave is nothing special.

Best Track: "Christopher Lydon"

Blacklisted (2002) by Neko Case

Alt Country. I liked Fox Confessor Brings the Flood better. However, I'm willing to give this 'alt country' thing a try, short of wearing a straw cowboy hat, string tie, and a shirt with pearl buttons. I do like the steel guitars. "The Ghost Wiring" track is peculiar, because it has so much dead air on the end.

Best Track: "Stinging Velvet"
