jbx's Question never completely resolved ("do they count as Overlooked?")

Some of these aren't "Great". I'll leave the guesswork up to you.

and, I like B-25s. The beginning of Joe Morton's post-T2 "science genius" typecasting.

Fokker finale,

Beyond words,

Sound effects ("INVASION! of the NEPTUNE MEN!"),

Uncredentialed 1985 Alien sequel, reused 2001's space suits and, more memorably, starred Klaus Kinski:

Frankly (heh), all of the Hammer Horror Frankenstein films. Both Cushing (Frankenstein) and Lee (the monster) were Star Wars villains.

Horribly underrated & abused,

Where Lawrence went after his Lucasfilm apotheosis (scribe of Raiders AND Empire), greatest intro ever,

Wore out my laserdisc player. One of Syd Mead's regrets,

It's part of their underlooked cinematic greatness.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Big Bad Love."
Arliss is hot, but the story is goood, too.

I never saw Robert Wuhl's Arli$$. Long-standing love of the name itself regardless.

Next,

Dennis Miller, pre-Fox,

Death to Smoochy. I'm really not sure how this movie got overlooked. It's got this wonderful dark humor wrapped in a kid's show.

OMG, look at all that copy. No one would ever read all that copy today.

Wow, I don't know which is more nostalgic: the copy or the film.

I know the swuave 60's Cini Boeri Joe Colombo Cold War era's more popular, but I always preferred the latter high-tech faceted Lockheed-prototype Reagan/Clancy era.

That said, this has been gracing local poster stalls lately,

And I hope you'll forgive these career-dwelling indulgences:

First, made recently more poignant (read the fine gray):

Second, poignant from the start,

Edit: Realized I like these threads better when they contain interaction. So,

UberCanine, I'm astonished at all that copy. The original, theatrical "CREATURE" (1985) one sheet sports a shocking slogan-diatribe. The file was too big to post here. Not only would no one READ all of that today ('cept us), no one would write it.

striv, that movie continues to seem tantalizingly almost-good. Is it? Dare I resort to Netflix?

Whit Stillman's Metropolitan, and to a lesser extent, the followup, Barcelona.

I think Barcelona is also marvelous, but it lacks that naive wonder that permeates Metropolitan.

Keep in mind that nearly all of the characters in these movies need a good beating.

Well, this turned out pretty long, but I just kind of scrolled through my list of NetFlix movies looking for my 5 star ones that I think are fairly overlooked. Apologies if everyone here has already seen most of these!

The Chumscrubber - Apocalypse suburbia!

Cube - Scifi movie about people suddenly waking up trapped in a weird maze of cubic rooms.

Delicatessen - Still my favorite Jean-Pierre Jeunet film--even better than Amelie.

Donny Darko - Possibly the coolest time travel movie ever. Does it still qualify? I think it's gotten pretty popular as time goes by.

Freeway - Little Red Riding Hood gets even.

Fresh - Chess & surviving growing up inner city.

Ginger & Cinnamon - Cute and silly and sweet. A girl and her aunt go on vacation together somewhat against the aunt's will.

I'm Not Scared - Great Italian movie about a kidnapped child.

Idiocracy - Mike Judge pass judgement on America.

The Limey - Terence Stamp is just mean in this one.

Local Hero - Porsches, comets, mermaids & big oil.

The Minus Man - Owen Wilson as the most friendly serial killer ever.

Real Genius - Always and forever my favorite movie of all time! Smile

Red Rock West - Fun little murder & intrigue movie in the country.

Ridicule - A film about sarcasm being elevated to an art form.

Smilla's Sense of Snow - One woman won't give up investigating how a little boy in her building ended up dead.

Smoke Signals - A coming of age journey for a couple of American Indian boys off the Rez.

Spun - Good tweaker fun. Meth and Mickey Rourke.

The Triplets of Belleville - Hilarious animated film about a granny and her dog going after her kidnapped grandson cyclist. Bonus points if you are into bicycling, Tour De France etc.

Sunshine State - Real estate and a small Florida town.

Ulee's Gold - Family relationships and honey.

Wristcutters: A Love Story - Adventures in Purgatory! This just came out last year, but everyone should see it. Since everyone has not, it goes on the list.

The Zero Effect - Bill Pullman as a Howard Hughes-like PI.
