Hadn't caught wind of this one until I stumbled across this review on Salon.

Will definitely be picking it up when I can.

Good but with its own technical jargon, which makes it really dense reading.

I don't know if I'm 100% in agreement that it's a page turner. Some parts had major adventure going on, but then you'll hit a 25 page discussion of philosophy that slows the pace pretty dramatically--like as much or more so than similar sections in The Baroque Cycle. Worth reading, but perhaps not worth hardback entry price for some?

Meh, I thought we were geeky enough around here that this was exciting enough to merit it's own thread - for a discussion. The 'Month X Reading' thread is (correctly) more of a potpouri.

This sounds like a good read. To me anyway. But another 960 pages, won't get to it for a spell I expect.

Still, maybe I will just go buy the damn thing and read it now.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go buy this tomorrow. It really sounds right up my alley (or existential dead end as it were).

OK, very excited about the book, first time in a while since I have been this excited... but OH MY GOD is that trailer horrid.

Horrid.

I made a better mock up for my own book for fuck's sakes and that was a mock up!

Oh, man, really, really, really, bad trailer.

Seriously.

get acid for your ocular bits, people.

The husband, in a spate of misguided boredom, ordered and received a copy this week. I took one look at the brick and said, 'Still needs an editor, eh?'

I still like Neuromancer more.

At any rate, I just bought the novel and will dive in soon.

Frankly, I don't have the time for 950 pages.

I've thought he needs a good Editor too. That has been my opinion since Cryptonomicon. Despite there being parts of that book that I enjoyed immensely.

I passed on The Baroque Cycle. At this point, I don't want to join any book cults.

Why can't Stephenson write Snow Crash length stories anymore?

Pynchon Syndrome. He's probably the closest thing since the original.

Then again, I read (and enjoyed) Against the Day.

I've read Cryptonomicon three or four times, and the Baroque Cycle twice.

I likes 'em big.

That exactly explains 'Killa. Among many other reasons.
