A dirty big dry Manhattan: Crown Royal, Noilly Prat, lots of Angostura, and a thin crescent cut from an orange. ("Dry" just means it's made with white vermouth instead of pink vermouth.) Three-day weekend. First one in a fucken while.

Water. Lots and lots of water. Phoenix's 9 month summer has begun with our first instance of consecutive 90F days. Tonight I'll polish off the rest of a six pack of Bud. What? It's wet, and if you drink enough of it, you get drunk. Both of my requirements are satisfied.

A Martini, quite wet; 2/3 Tanqueray, 1/3 Cinzano white vermouth, shaken, strained, lemon wedge. Cinzano is a very sweet, very aromatic vermouth, quite the opposite of the salty, astringent Noilly Prat I usually prefer. It makes for a flavorful, frivolous, almost candy-ish Martini, which is a marvellous nice thing to sip while one is reading a book about torpedo-bombing and awaiting a telephone call about a smallish sea kayak while a loaf of bread is rising in the oven.
