Laphroaig is the bane of my whisky drinking career. Tastes like a peat bog to me!
But so many people like it...do you? ________ My chocolate beats your chocolate! |

Laphroaig is not whisky, it is on a class of its own.
Older ones, such as the nice vintage Boog shows, are milder, even if still complex. Closer to Lagavulin and the other Islay malts. Or you could do as most islanders do and add a bit of water. I like Laphroaig, a lot, but so close to going to sleep I prefer something smoother, like Glenlivet, which is what I am drinking now. Retired |

I love scotch. Even bad scotch, which this is not. (I have the vintage shown.) I love the earthy tones, the moss and smoke. Same things I like in a coffee...s'why I love the Sumatra. As far as I'm concerned, I prefer silent vice to ostentatious virtue. -Albert Einstein |

I do prefer Cardhu or at least Glenfiddich...
When I'm drunk after beer, Jack Daniels cowboy (without ice) do the job When I want to get drunk a Spanish Domecq do the job. When I want to get f*****g drunk, absinthe works extremely well. In my preferred pub they have a fair selection of this beverage. ---------- Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ??? |

Laphroaig is a rakish street-brawler, bowler hat askew, ever-ready for fisticuffs and extemporaneous public oratory.
Lagavulin is Laphroaig's settled older brother. Made his start fencing stolen carts; made his pile in the city with shrewd investments of the ill-gotten proceeds. Lives in a stately home, where he still dashes the crockery into the walls, on occasion. Can't seem to forget his roots. Glenlivet is their supremely discreet and competent butler. Never a hair out of place. Utter perfection, without a hint of a sharp edge. Murmurs. I like them all. But I like Springbank more than all of them put together. Springbank is the salty little tart the next house over. The one with the wink. |

If I were a woman, or if I were that type of man, I would ask you to marry me this instant just for that metaphor. As it is, I'll just raise a glass to you. |

I like this one. Gateway drug to the whole single malt thingy. ------- Birth, School, Work, Death |

Wonderful, Mr, Oldman, and all so true (except for Springbank, that neighbourhood girl that for me never gives you more than a good day, and keeps her charms for someone else).
May I ask, what you think of Blanton's? (While refilling the Glenlivet, which is still what I need right now) Retired |

the first whisky I ever had was a Glenmorangie after my boyfriend was nearly killed climbing near Hadrian's Wall-- in a warm pub on a cold evening: it was heaven.
The one malt I don't like is Glenfiddich, maybe because oy get it everywhere over here: I love Talisker -- and Laphroaig of course -- and Auchentoshan is smooth -- I could go on and on... smoky Bowmore is all right, Highland park classy ... and I havent got a drop o ANY of the stuff in the house-- arrrghhhhh! |

I need to decide what's next:
Generic Glenfiddich or 7 year old Laphroaig from the casket? ------- Birth, School, Work, Death |

Glenfiddich is true generic, bland but nice. However I am a recent convert to the 15 y. o. Solera Reserve, that I bought because Iain Banks thinks it is the best whisky in a quality/price ratio. I am loving it. As sleep seems to evade me, maybe I should switch bottles...

You must be referring to the 10, which can be a bit on the mild side. I've had a bottle each of the 21 and 27. Not the same stuff once it's got a few more laps around the
I...don't think I've ever drunk any. Had a monsterfucking delicious-good Elijah Craig 12-year, though, in someone's house in Westchester just before New Year's. Stuff had manners like a decent cognac. |

I find Irish whiskey too smooth. Nice but no character. ------- Birth, School, Work, Death |
