LOL, I tease my wife about that all the time. She's sansei and still has the affinity for slimy foods.

Someone pointed out to me once that Japanese-from-Japan hate the slimies, but nisei and sansei love them. My Japanese cousins think natto's for old people.

I can only go by hear say, but I've been told that natto is appreciated only in certain regions. You can't really pin it down to one island vs another. More like nattometriosis.

My experience with natto: I tried it for the first time relatively recently, and I loved it. I grew up being fed by recently converted vegetarians, who were also a bit distracted by seven of us running around. We ended up eating almost-rotten beans fairly often, so natto is a bit like a comfort food.
