Oi vey. You know, kids were still chanting Christian prayers in public schools in Alabama in 1984, when I was in 5th grade there. Utah has always been a cultist retreat disguised as a state. The loopy, loony, American Jesus-freaks have been committing acts ranging from high silliness to true madness for hundreds of years now. It's the one true constant in our relatively short, tumultuous history. Drawing a causal relationship between the national election results of November, 2004 and just another data point in a long line of data points borders on true Southern Baptist Silliness itself. I know an argument could be made that the result did/will have an effect promoting Christian Stupidity, but methinks perhaps you're jumping the gun. Maybe.

Come now, DP, I'm sure you can blaspheme better than that. I wouldn't worry so much about creationism being taught in schools; there are bigger fish to fry where the religious right is concerned.

I'm still convinced the solution to the problem of evil is that God isn't omnipotent. Which means if we get enough of us together we should be able to take him...

A group of close friends we were. Bound together by an unholy pact we set out to take on our creator. Spanners entered the works when we found out that the lamb of god is actually a wombat. He rides a lama.

Well well welllllll, somebody has no ability to take/understand/tolerate a good Satanist joke. I'd flame you, but the Dark Lord tells me he has it covered.

Addressing today's Blog "Several million children age 9 to 18 have participated in the more than 100 federal abstinence programs since the efforts began in 1999. Waxman's staff reviewed the 13 most commonly used curricula -- those used by at least five programs apiece. " So how do you go about checking participation in abstinence? Is there an inspection process? More importantly - 9 year olds having sex? (eyebrows shoot off face). Good Heavens!

in this same vein http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/1109/p12s01-legn.htmlas mentioned in the article, texas girls between 15 and 17 already have the highest pregnancy rate in the country. but surely, that must be because their school textbooks mentioned contraception...

Well, the wee hours tend to make me a little snarky, apologies. But it was a pretty inaccurate joke. And inaccurate jokes MUST NOT BE TOLERATED. Also, further to whybother's comment, I saw a documentary in the UK about Texan teens and their chastity. Apparently, rates of anal sex are at an all time high because they don't believe that it involves taking their virginity. They then, therefore, can remain "chaste" for marriage. As a result, STD's (and pregnancy) are at horrifically high levels. Officials are prevented from educating the children at school, and have to hold "underground" meetings at home in order to try and make some kind of impact to these children. The level of miseducation is quite disgusting.

True Love Waits When Icewoman wrote that her 14-year old brother received a "True Love Waits" tattoo from his parents as a birthday present, the first thing I thought was - "Wow, he's a pretty serious Tom Waits fan!"

its not surprising to me to find out the federal programs are ridiculous.
they did the same thing with the war on drugs, and D.A.R.E. i was told in school by policemen that one hit of marijuana could stop my heart from beating.
the message misinformation sends out, is one of distrust, i think programs that lie are doing more damage than good.
