Digital stuff:

Lever House:

Burger Joint:

Three geeks at one table:

Albany Bus Terminal Arcade:

I found that infantry combat arcade game very disturbing, in a naive, Bushian way.

I love the arcade photos.

What's that pink blob on the plate with the steak at Lever House? (And they don't give you many chips, either!)

The pink blob was some sort of herbed butter-pat that arrived perched atop the steak. I just shifted it aside.

That steak-frites was pricey even by Manhattan standards. But it was as good as any striploin I've ever barbequed myself, and it was exactly the same thickness and doneness as I do them.

The fries were very unusual. Imagine fries as wrought by a tempura chef. Tasty as hell, though.

Thank fuck I can only afford to go on vacation for a couple of days once or twice a year.

Puissant. And yes, quite frightening.

It looks like a Stanley Kubrick shot.

Just curious, did you ask for the lady in black shot ?

The one wearing the skulls?

I couldn't determine if that was a man or a woman, and that really made me very happy!

Thanks for all your kind words. Some replies to specific comments & questions:

Nice photo of the Flatiron building.

Thank you, ma'am. That fucken Flatiron building was on my "see" list when I made my first trip in December 2005. However, no plan ever survives first contact with digitalprimate, and I put it down for my return visit in December 2006. Rommel's theory of digitalprimatism intervened yet again. Jotted it on my frag list for March 2007. Same/same. And then, in December 2007, blasting north-south along the outer avenues in taxicabs with striv, never got near it. Only saw it last month due to a sudden moment of map-awareness. Wait: I'm where? SHIT!! *scurrying sounds*

It's totally worth a look in person. Very unusual, charismatic edifice.

...hard-edged urban surface...

I was kind of thinking that this set held together fairly well, but I couldn't really put my finger on why- until I read your comment. And then I looked at them again, and I got it.

I don't always understand what the hell I'm doing. I'm 100% reactor, character-wise. Guess I was reacting, for those three rolls.

It looks as if a Blueshift may have wandered into your frame on a couple of those shots. Standard issue sidearm or a taser can prevent that from happening again.

Thanks. Good to know. Ethanol sure didn't work.

There's a digitalprimate in one of the last shots, as well. In stealth mode.

Did your watch get you a free Manhattan at the Bar?

*snort* No. But the topic did come up. Transcript:

Bartender: "So what brings you to New York?"

Oldman: "Vacation. Wandered into this place, though, because it was designed by the guy who did my watch, and I wanted to have a look."

Bartender: "Really? Do you have it with you? Can I see it? Is it orange?"

My manners (can only have been my manners) did get me a few comped taster-shots of bourbon and cask-aged tequila, though. That was a helluva nice place to spend a couple of hours.

Do you keep your pics online anywhere? You have posted several that I love but can't find them in the archives here.

Not all of them. Mostly, I just keep them here. I've taken to saving links to my Gibson Board travel photo albums and their accompanying threads just so I can find them for re-posting or referral. I can post the links if you wish. And if you want a honking big version of any of them to frighten neighboorhood children, that can be arranged.

Just curious, did you ask for the lady in black shot ?

Yes, I did. Funny you should ask. I recently wrote this account of that shot in an e-mail, in reply to a similar question:

Skull Girl was just some random store clerk standing having a smoke in the doorway of a freaky punk/goth shop. I actually did ask her permission. It was cute.

"Excuse me...but would I have permission to take your photograph?"

"Me? My photograph?" Despite her surprise, she had such a low, confident, yummy voice that I nearly ran away.

"Yeah."

"Okay. What do I have to do?"

"Nothing at all. Just stand there and ignore me."

In hindsight, it stands to reason that someone who dresses that eye-catchingly would have a good sense of self and a bit of drama in her. She just took a haul on her smoke and fell into that slouch. I snapped one quick frame, doffed my hat and bowed (earning a huge smile), and walked off south on Broadway.

Eres un chingón, MOM.
We all look around but so very few people actually see the world.
And yes, that bar is so very Kubrick.
But my favorite is the one with the two guys walking. Almost silhouettes.

I think maybe we can take up a collection to get you a flickr pro account. Lets see, at $35 year that would be about $0.10 per wigber (or just a half a cent canadian)

Also I am not really surprised about the girl. Having been in that world for a lot of years I can tell you she LOVED that you asked her, then she went inside and bitched about tourists taking her picture and bowing to her.

It is the ascthetic of the scene you must understand.

I'll move my comment over here: jaysus effin' keerist, those are some damn good pics, MOM.

I second what everyone has already said.

I would pay to have these in a book I could savor offline.

I like the one in the bar best. Smile
It's weird how it works better in black and white than in colour (assuming it's the same or a similar bar as the other one).

Also, food photography. Big Grin
Hmmmm...
