Being trapped in the ruins of his palace for months, Saddam finally got psychotic and started shooting the flying turtles he'd been seeing. They wore the face of Donald Rumsfeld.

Thank you guys for contributing here, your captions are both entertaining and insightful.

Now let's see if we can balance the humor with something more . . . practical: what should we REALLY expect the captions of these images to be?

Just thought doing such might be a good mind-exercise.

Starting with:

Humor is still welcome, of course.

With all due respect Metro D. humor is one of the best mind exercises I know. And to ask what we *should expect* the captions to read seems to imply a little too much.

If you want to ask us to produce non-humorous, literarily plausible captions, that's fine, at which point I'll just bow out, since I'm not a serious author, and such an exercise is probably left to more talented hands.

But just one more before I go....

"When Betty found the coupon in the newspaper from Pierre's Coif E-House for a free trial of the Curler-Free Hair Styler 3000 and Internet Hook-Up, she just couldn't resist."

Jacking in.

Never pleasant, never dull. Just what it is: compressed byte-packets. Forced into the brain.

A swirling melange of pixels -- blossoming, torrential. Gotfried hits "Enhance" -- Monet becomes Rockwell.

Has to stand still.

Stepping forward could cost a limb, courtesy Crimson Resistance exploit-hacks. You see it more and more.

Shit: must be bad here. Virtuo-bike enthusiast, no leg in his left socket. Empty, polygonal hole.

. . . Absolutely still . . .

Countdown:

ten: head

nine: neck

eight: torso

seven: hips

six: legs:

five: arms

four: palms

three: fingers

two: feet

one: toes.

Texture-maps paint it flesh-peach, always two shades too dark. Denim, brown loafers, and that fucking SolarMall bag.

Couldn't they design a less conspicious portable Exit?

" . . . Oh, my god."

They've crested the ridge. Awed, Cheryl looks at Peter.

"What is it?"

Quick fingers on forearm-mounted instruments. Scanlines. Miniature oscilloscope, pulsing. "Cryosilicate exo-structure, nanologically active . . . something that reads like heavy-duty neuro-circuitry, buried deep inside."

"The probelights picking up anything?"

"Just prelim rad-carbon testing."

Cheryl's eyes, emerald green.

"What's the verdict?"

"Verdict?"

"How old is it? How long's it been here?"

Peter's concentration. Ponderance . . . thumb on chin; flexglass faceplate bathed in instrument light.

"8.7 million years."

"What's this you're watching?"
"One of those Actual Size Hologram Docudramas. History Channel."
"No, I mean, what is it about?"
"Something about terrorist attacks that supposed to be happened threehundred years ago."
"Wow. Do you really think it looked like that?"
"Well, they claim to have done a lot of research. Completely realistic, it says."

M-D: I know one of the previous pics was from Pathways into Darkness and this most recent one reminds me of a Bungie game as well, can't place it, though. Am I right? You a Bungie fan?
