I'll book/get Blackwells tickets tomorrow - I was about 100 yards from there today.

Notting Hill Carnival is on 26th and 27th, with the children's parade on the Sunday and the main parade on the Monday, although both days are typically packed and might be a bit too scary for people. If you just want to look at the carnival stay on the carnival route. If you're feeling more adventurous and don't mind the possibility of ending up in a crush then head further inside. Portobello Road is one of the main thoroughfares, but none of the shops or the market will be open.

The Congress Center is about 100 yards from Wagamama.

Okay, now for the good news and the bad news.

Good news: I got time off for the meat. I sat down with my boss. At first she told me she couldn't give me the two weeks off because of the company class I am teaching. I reminded her again that I had warned her last month before she gave me the class, that I had told her this was important. It was at that moment that I began tearing up. I explained through sniffles and tears that this thing was important, that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, that this would change my life, and that I would do anything to go. Even just for one week. Then I offered my kidney, my blood, and my hitman services. My boss talked to another boss and I was told I could have the time off...as a secret. No telling my students. I can't believe I cried. I guess this means a lot to me.

Bad news: I have to work this Saturday. A fair trade. No biggie. Also, I only got one week off, which means I can't explore and travel around Europe the way I had hoped. Also, I was expecting to receive money from my first year contract, but was told that the policy changed and I may not be able to receive the money until the end of my second contract. Which is unacceptable. Because, dammit, I need it now.

So, I will use my powers of negotiation yet again to get all the money I need for this trip. I will not take NO for an answer.

I will make this happen.

Okay, just booked the hotel room! I can't buy the plane ticket until next week, so hopefully the price doesn't go up too much.

Anyway, we'll see what happens.

Updated Tally (page 6):

Londonistanians:

Kradlum. BT (no, not British Telecom, Blackwell ticket).
Mirror Girl is leaving just when WG arrives. Talk about bad luck. She may be around the 27th.
Auteur Gal. An unknown.
Sentinel400. Still silent, but unofficially expected to be around.
Memetic Engineer. Central London Cyberpunk tour. BT.
Gil. Wednesday. Informal PR tour?

Blighters and related people:

Remote: Tuesday to Thursday. BT. Edinburgh on Monday.
Crash. Most likely not, but in six weeks plenty may happen. Edinburgh on Monday.
Newromancer. Tuesday and Wednesday. BT. If I caught the wink right, Ms. Newromancer will be attending too.
Chris H. Expected on Tuesday at least.

Eurocrats:

Striv. Saturday to Wednesday. BT.
Wanderer. Still a hopeful.
Hasa. Tuesday to Thursday. BT.
ArkanGL. Tuesday and Wednesday? BT. As far as I know Ms. GL has never registered on WGB, but is a common sight around the WGB.
Psychophant. Tuesday to Thursday. BT.
Fashionpolice. Tuesday and Wednesday. BT.
Gringo. Tuesday and part of Wednesday.

Strangers from a Strange Land.

Meru. Will set a record on longest trip to meet the man. Confirmed to come. Sexy clubbing warning. BT.

Unofficial information.

I have heard rumours that M and Leitz Noctilux might be in London that week.

Okay, I've booked (flight, hotel and Blackwell tickets) for me and Mrs Gringo (who is a registered member, btw. I think she posted at least twice the past four years Big Grin. And she read the Sprawl Trilogy!)

So, we're there. Arriving Tuesady, leaving Thursday. Looking forward to meeting you all.

I don't do sexy.
I don't do outfits.
I don't do clubbin' (at least not for years).

And even back then, I used to go to the places that are not listed in TimeOut.
There used to be a few really nice clubs around London. As none of them ever stayed for longer then two years, they will have all changed name and location by now. We will need to rely on locals pointing us into the right direction.

Anyway, is the Oxygen Bar still around? And if so, is there still happy hour with jugs on the top flour?
Could be a nice compromise, as there used to be a club in the basement.

Oh, fine. I can compromise. Look, all I really want are drinks, good music, and the opportunity to dance like a crazy person.
