I love the way Jarmusch mostly shot it like it was a document from back then, clunky camera moves and not too many close ups. The shot of Mitchum holding the shotgun with that inferno behind him... is MAJESTIC.

Thank you! Meant to mark it and forgot. Only 4000 behind you, Misty...

This weekend we mostly alternated between DVD sets of Sex and the City season 7, Looney Tunes Golden Collection 3 and House season 3. Carrie Bradshaw's outfits get ever more bizarre.

Somebody had mentioned here the movie "Love Actually" and as sappy as it is I still like that flick so I rented it this weekend.

I often wonder as to how well the humour translates to non-British audiences?

Some brit humor I don't get, the original version of the Office springs to mind. This was pretty broad though, without cultural references that I might miss.

The Cooler (2003) by Wayne Kramer

William H. Macy plays the hangdog Bernie, a professional jinx at a mob-run casino. However, when he falls for a waitress, he starts having the opposite effect. Alec Baldwin is at his smarmy best as the casino boss.

Is it me, or is Battlestar getting boring?

It may be that I'm watching in episode by episode now, instead of doing marathon DVD sessions.

ok...so on Saturday i was subjected to Biodome in its repellant entirety. i think i'm quite a bit more dumberer now.
can someone please tell me how the christ Pauly Shore was paid to do so many movies?

washed the stench oot of my brain on Sunday with A Christmas Story. my favorite seasonal film next to Lethal Weapon.

Make that a second order of The Hogfather please. Mr Teatime looks appropriately deranged in that still. And is that Nigel Planer as Rincewind?

Like everybody else. I don't think I have ever seen 5000+ leechers before.

..and IMDB says Yes to Nigel Planer and No to Rincewind (I was thinking I couldn't remember Rincewind in that story). And apparently a cameo from Pratchett himself as the Toy Maker.

.../me will join the leechers when he gets home and off dialup

This is certainly a sentiment I can get behind, although "Burn in hell you cliff-hanging bastards!" is another one...

Heh. Well, at least the cliff only lasts a month.

We've been watching the Monty Python box set (just finished the fourth DVD, which ends with "Intermission." "Albatross!"), and Black Adder the Third. Anachronistic (what are the Romantic poets doing hanging around with Samuel Johnson? Though Lord Byron threatening to kill everyone by spreading his syphilis is rather priceless, as was his observation that "Coleridge's drugs seem to be wearing off."), but hugely funny if you can keep up. Can't believe Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and Funeral, Love, Actually, Notting Hill) was one of the writers on the show.

I am a Biodome apologist. Yes it's dumb, but that's it's charm. Also the cutaway to the two guys shaving the dog and hollering "Shave poochy poochy!" makes be guffaw every time. What can I say I enjoy the stupid.

Also Christmas Story is chock full of greatness.

Last night, Barbarians at the Gate. Tonight. Onmyoji (which I hope I spelled right). Both good films. Onmyoji is a sort of Japanese fable about court magicians and curses. Barbarians is a French film about a man coming to terms with his life and his son while dying of cancer.

I think it's been 3 weeks since I saw a film that didn't have subtitles. Gotta bump one where they speak 'Merican to the top of the queue!

I would have to be paid a SIGNIFICANT amount of money to sit through The Hogfather.

I love this series. I think the Second just edges out the Third for lunatic situations. Miranda Richardson is SO brilliantly demented she's very hard to follow.

Harder to believe Ben Elton was too. Though many of the principal players have travelled quite a long way from where they were then. Who'd have predicted Hugh Lawrie's current location?
