Oh I agree! One that stayed with me The tension, the sense of place.

/Spoiler/: The film is so good in itself that the ending was a bonus, right? Almost a short-short in its own right./end Spoiler/

Is it out everywhere-- like Australia, the US?
Highly recommended.

The Prestige.

I loved it. I figured out the big trick after a while, it really wasn't that hard with all the clues scattered about. Loved the acting and the mood. Bowie was the best and yes, a bit more scenes with him wouldn't have hurt, but that wasn't really where the story went, so ok.

AS an extra: i watched this projected on a nice big wall. The photography club has a beamer but there have always been problems with the colour. Since there isn't enough time during the meetings to properly experiment with different settings, they let me take it home with me to get some acceptable colours out of it by the next meeting. So i watched The Prestige spread out wonderfully on my wall. Mmmm, life sized Scarlett Johansson. Smile

Notes on a Scandal. Character driven story with tour de force by Judy Dench.
An absolute trainwreck of a story that still in no-way makes you cringe to watch.

science of sleep - i actually didn't know anything about this film before i went in, not really. not entirely sure what i made of it. good cast - gael garcia bernal and charlotte gainsbourg, though emma de caune seemed a little wasted for all that she was in it. definitely some nice stuff in there.

hot fuzz - super cop nicholas angel(pegg) gets relocated to the country, sleepy little down where nothing ever happens, though that is a strangely high number of accidents... funny listening to all the people coming down the escalator afterwards, discussing their favourite bits, the priest shouting this, the woman on the bike, the farmer's mother.

Day Watch (2006) by Timur Bekmambetov

Actually I think Day Watch the second in the series of three is better than Night Watch. I find the star Konstantin Khabensky to be a bit lame, although the female actresses (including Friske) are very hot, in an over-the-top way.

I think the Russians use a different film processing technology. It looks very similiar to the old Panovision, which gives better colors, but is more expensive than the Technicoler in general use in the west.

Finding a good set of English subtitles was tough.

I haven't seen the second one floating around
anywhere and the first is in the matroska
filetype (.mkv), for which I have no players.
Did we really need another format?

The CCCP (combined community codec pack) with integrated media player classic will play any media format you'll toss it. One installer, bunches of codecs and a tiny, friendly but full featured media player.

Donnie Darko (2001) by Richard Kelly

A teen and his rabbit wreck creative havoc.

The young Gyllenhaal shows the promise he displayed in 'Brokeback Mountain'. Drew Barrymore has a bit part, but still shines. Mary McDonnell makes her second major appearance after 'ER' and before 'Battlestar Galactica' (Prez Roslin).

A film worth watcing, if you have not seen it.
