IWGPImmaturely hip in much the same way as Hackers, but still a dorky sort of fun.

mmm... - by michael clark - a dance piece at the tramway in glasgow. the poster showed a half naked woman with a mustache, contorted into a weird position. the description talked about how brutal and physically demanding the thing was. don't get me wrong, i have no doubt that any dance is demanding, but i expected something challenging, edgy, interesting. ballet to the soundtrack of wire/sex pistols is not challenging, its rigid, precises, and safe. semi nudity and mirrors and projections don't make it any more risque. at one point they projected the word "bored" on the back of the stage and i thought "fucking tell me about it!". i've seen demanding and challenging dance, this wasn't it.

Nausica of the Valley of the Wind - Gibli Studios strikes again. I was able to id Edward James Olmos and Patrick Stewart with ease, but spent the rest of the time agonizing over who the hell the female voice-over talent was. (Alison Lohman, Uma Thurman)

Monkeybone (again) - fun. Alien (again) - still suspenseful, even if it starts very slowly (like Solaris slowly) and the computer systems on the Nostromo look laughably old skool.

That's why I like them! Ron Cobb says he had an old WW II bomber in mind when he designed the cockpit. That explains the odd bits of striking but nonsensical imagery like the helmet and goggles that the readouts project onto. Poetic. (I also watched it just last week)

mainly been watching the latest epsiodes of LOST, 24 and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Also caught these: THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS - directed by Asia Argento. Wonderfully done. Not for the weak. EMPEROR TOMATO KETCHUP - dir by Shuji Terayama. Early 70's avant garde piece about a society in which children have taken political control and created a totalitarian empire in which adults are subjected to harsh laws and offenders typically wind up in concentration camps. Difficult viewing for many as the film teems with taboo subject matter. TETSUO THE IRON MAN: Tetsuo! Tetsuo! Tetsuo! Tetsuo! Tetsuo! Tetsuo! Tetsuo! Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo! Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo!Tetsuo! DIGITAL JUICE - a selection of short animations from Studio 4C. 4 BROTHERS - dir. John Singleton. Way over the top action movie. Reminded me more of a video game than anything. Lots of fun anyways.

I'm about half way through GHOST IN THE SHELL STAND ALONE COMPLEX: SECOND GIG and really enjoying it - the plot's taken one or two unexpected turns, there's a bit of backstory on some of the team, and the TACHIKOMA DAYS add-ons are getting more and more surreal. I much prefer listening to the Japanese soundtrack, though; it's just not the same with the english dub. best, Chris H

i've lost track of fish. but he used to play quite regularly. i saw him one year, at least 10 years ago, think it was christmas eve. the atmosphere was great. he was such a show man, i think a lot of people lost interest in marillion with his departure because fish had such charisma as a front man.
