Finally finished the first (and, of course, only) season of firefly. I was a bit skeptical because I had seen the movie Serenity when that came out on dvd, having never seen the show, and was underwhelmed. Loved the series and am going to give the movie another chance.

Yet another reason I don't watch television. Good shows get cancelled prematurely. Frown

Idiocracy.

Mike Judge's superb satire on humanity. hilarious.
basically two cryo-experiment testees awaken 500 years into an idoitevolutionary sportsdrink dystopia. a precise, genious scifi comedy.

The Hidden (1987) by Jack Sholder

A body stealing alien with a preferrence for loud music and fast cars is chased by a LA detective and another alien who has stolen the body of an FBI agent. Its really a sci-fi spoof.

Claudia Christian, "Babylon 5", "Broken News" plays a possessed stripper. Kyle MacLachlan of "Desparate Housewives, is enigmatic.

Interesting, by very different.

Space Cowboys-
I guess I kind of expected more from Clint Eastwood- But, it had Donald Sutherland in it so, it wasn't too bad-

Finally caught Sin City in preparation for 300 this weekend. Didn't really do it for me, outside of the Mickey Rouke character of Marv I couldn't get into it at all. Not being much of a comic fan that might explain why.

However I did enjoy the noirish flick Journey to the end of the Night Brendan Fraser playing a coked out psycho, Scott Glen is his pimp father and Mos def as the drug mule they are using to bring back enough money for one, and only one apparently, of them to retire from the seedy life they both have grown to despise.

Set and filmed in Sao Paolo, Brazil it is a beautiful Michael Mann-esque film of neon and dirty streets.

Red Dwarf Seasons 1-4

Its a bit unerving for Holly to become female in season 3 without any notice.

I also liked the cheezy props in seasos 1-2 before popularity brought better effects and a more polished show.

Went to see Zodiac this weekend (didn't have much choice Fincher has too many things I love on his resume). I liked it, but I have a fascination with serial killers anyway. It was long and slow at times, but that probably mirrored the real case.

Spaced, Seasons 1 & 2 (thanks misty!) Enjoying it a lot so far (third ep), though the second ep with the party was more the 'comedy of excruciation', which is not really my thing. Tell me it's not all like that...

Uhm... I'm pretty sure that wasn't the last concert with Fish, actually. I have a copy of that dvd and it is dated 18th july 1987, I saw them later that year (november) in Rotterdam, still with Fish. I think he left early '88.

Great band, great concert, anyway. I still miss them. I don't like the 'new' Marillion much, and, though I saw him live at least two times, Fish's solo albums are really no match for the early Marillion albums, either, I think. But I love the guy, such a great performer.

A guy from my town organised the first Father Ted convention held in S.Ireland last month! Odd.

yeah i read about that! oh good on em! so we actually watched all the eps up until the kicking bishop brennan up the arse. i was sooo glad to find that speed 3 was one of em. so i haven't watched any father ted for years, it's funny because obviously an awful lot of the tv comedy i've watched since then owes a lot to it. actually much of it's been written by one of the same guys. so it wasn't quite as side splitting as i remembered it. still very very funny.

bravus - no there's not too much to worry about with spaced (unilke father ted, during one ep i almost did the going for a walk round the house because i couldn't bear it but then i realised i'd put the dvd in the machine so had to take more responsibility for it.)(i covered my head with a cushion instead.) i've forgottn the order of eps, off the top of my head the flaps/art ep (i never know titles) has the odd moment.

Spaced is really hitting its stride now, and getting really funny. Twist is still bloody annoying, but might be able to be redeemed, Brian is turning out really excellent although the character idea looked like it had the potential to be really painful, and the same for Mike to some extent. Just finishing off the Colin-rescue episode.
