Went to see Iron Man tonight and it was good. I'm a Robert Downey Jr. fan anyway and he was perfect as Tony Stark. I also liked the little clip after the credits with a special guest. Definitely cool.

^ I'm pretty sure that's what I'm doing Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to it--seems to have gotten almost universal good reviews from everyone I know who has seen it!

Just saw a little film called Bella, which was really quite sweet. At times I felt the script was perhaps over-obvious in its attempt to tug at the heart strings, but some good acting and cinematography managed to save it quite nicely.

When remotepush says a movie is 'deeply, deeply, deeply fucking odd'... you'd better believe it. Enjoyed it a lot though - just dive into dream logic and remember the title of the Talking Heads concert movie.

Saw Smart People with my main man Nick. Ellen Page in gym shorts looks preternaturally diminutive.

The Mist (2007)

Not a bad Steven King adaption. His short stories and novellas adapt well to movies.

The soliloquies could have been fewer and further between. The ending was one of the two only possible endings, given it was Steven King meets Hollywood.

Hollywood standard level of CGI. American film standard of violence in preference to sexuality.

I thought Holden did rather well, I'd never seen her before. Jane is pigeon holing himself into a skiffy action hero.

Sorry for the bad tip. The Army 'Z-Squad' shtick was seriously lame. However, the flesh-stripping, Zombie, bitch fight at the end was worth wading through the movie.

OK, I tuned out after an hour but I'll replay the finale next time I get the chance to kick back with a few beers - the cat fight sounds worth it Wink

This weekens was mostly spent outdoors, but I did manage to catch a late night horror from 1960,

Horror Hotel (The The City of the Dead)

I love these old Hammer type films. The more Christopher Lee, the better.

Yes it was. We were there in a packed cinema the night it opened. Many rewards for the comics fan secreted all though it...

...especially that one. Even cooler when everyone has already stampeded for the exits and there are only six of you left to see it!

Bondi Rescue

Caught two episodes of this at the pub last night, recovering from a hard day at the beach. Great fun watching the p1ssed up chavs (as we call em here in the UK) being pulled out of the sea. I'd imagine the female viewers enjoy it for other reasons.

Tried to watch Doctor Who yesterday now I have discovered the BBC iPLAYER is on our tv as well as online. Gave up after ten minutes when Martha is seized by baddies, for no good reason. It really is like watching a pantomime now. Catherine Tate and Tennant seem to be engaged in a gurning competition (she's winning) in lieu of acting. And the dreadful syrupy music is ridiculous. Also ridiculously loud.

P.S. I Love You
an incredibly emotional flick. tears on, tears off, tears on, tears off. i've never cried that much in the first 30 minutes of a movie before.
not a boy movie at all (as I told Twi, the only thing a guy would get from it would be a fake irish accent... and believe you me, you've never heard fake-Irish till you've heard a Hawaiian try that! Wink).
but it was a nice movie, despite the emotion. i really liked how it ended, because it didn't have a cookie-cutter ending.
three Smile Smile Smile out of 4.

not recommended for the males of the species, like I told Twi the only thing he'd get from it would be a fake Irish accent (and believe me, you've never heard a fake Irish accent till you've heard a Hawaiian try it).
for the women, i'd give it 3 Frown out of 4. good chick flick.

Finally got around to seeing Howl's Moving Castle. Man, gorgeous animation.

Empty barrels make the most noise.

I'm gonna buy the "Narnia" DVD tomorrow.

Is it just me, or isn't that icy White Witch particularly ˜hot' when she drives a dagger down through the Lion's heart?

The White Witch always gets a bad rap. Like everyone doesn't know the Lion comes back anyway...

I gotta tell you I loathed the Narnia movie. Nothing happened for 4/5s of the movie and then there was a fantasy battle. I read the books as a kid and loved them, but I found the movie mindnumbing.

Season 1, X-Files trivia episode. Fire: Mulders English university lover crosses the pond to play one last mindtrick. Interesting body language from Scully. Loving it.

Caught about 2 minutes of KNTV. It looked very good, and very interesting, even if it was aimed at schoolkids. (Here's a clip, although it doesn't show the CGI presenters Kierky and Nietsche) Hell, it beat's "Paddle To The Sea"* which was the only TV program I remember watching in school.

*Anyone else remember this? I was 8 when I saw it and it seems like yesterday.

Finished season 2.0 of Battlestar. I am loving this show, although I hate cliffhanger endings where I don't have the next episode to watch immediately.

Also watched this week's episode of Top Chef and I am so infatuated with this show. It's getting to the nitty gritty now, that's when it's at it's best.

Fifty Pills (2006)

Sophmoric effort. Looks like someones film school thesis project.

Cast is a bunch of young actors that have since gone onto TV.
