Right now, Nadal versus Schuetler on centre court. It'a a match. Schuetler isn't going to just fold up and give it away. Great tennis.

Finally got out and watched Wall-E today. That is one gaddam CUTE movie. But such a bleak backdrop to the whole story too! As usual, Pixar FTMFW.

Thumbsucker (2005)
Drama. A disappointment. I don't particularly like 'teen coming of age movies', but this one had a good cast. Unfortunately, the plot was lame, and the good members of the cast could not save it despite some arty cuts back and forth. Filming was mediocre. Swinton was the best actor in the cast, this showed. Pucci was lost in this film. Reeves is barely adequete. (He's obviously has never smoked cigarettes seriosly.) |

Wanted (2008)
Thriller. This movie was OK. It had the thrilling effects, but for some reason did not thrill me. (If you need a guns and cars quick fix, you probably should see this film.) I think my disatisfaction was because of Jolie as the Fox character. (Why was she the only woman member of the Frat?) There were highpoints in the film. I'm going to have use a keyboard on a colleague, someday. I did like the ending, the evolution of Wesley from nebish to demigod was fine. "What have you done today?" Filming was Hollywood-Premium thriller with effects that must be seen on the BIG SCREEN to be appreciated. McAvoy wss fine for the part. His newness was ideal for the Wesley character ("Who are you?"). Joelie was a disappointment. Besides looking like she was recovering from a long illness, she was unconvincing. I'm also really tired of Freeman playing 'the wise old man'. He should just retire. Everyone else, just was. Did anyone stay long engough to see that disclaimer that 'no animals were harmed in the filming of this motion picture'? Do flies count? |

I enjoyed seeing Schuetler banging his head against the tennis ball, like a particularly violent and demonstrative version of the "be the ball" mantra. Followed up by even more phenomenal tennis today. 5 sets, Nadal finally beating Federer 9 to 7 in the fifth after two rain delays, practically in the dark. What happens when one player is currently playing at his peak when another player finally reaches his own? And they both play practically perfect games? Greatness. »» "Forget infinity. The Ruins (2008)
Horror. College kids on holiday in Mexico are parasatized and eaten by ancient evil. Typical morality play where lascivious conduct by youth gets you killed. Its movies like this that turn young Americans toward Christian cults and away from doing Jaeger Bombs and their nubile GFs. This reminds me (again) not to holiday in Mexico. According to the movies, young, healthy, attactive Anglos have a half-life of about 3-days there before running afoul of satanic locals, ancient evil, cartel gangsters, and Fuldog. Ancient evil was too cheezy. Filming was adequete. Fake blood was high-quality. Wounds and bodily carnage were particularly well done. Cast was B-grade hunks and hunkettes. I'd seen one of two of them before on TV, B-grade movies, and supporting roles. Malone got to keep her clothes on, because she has the longest resume. |

Went to see Wall-E today and it was pretty good. Definitely not your cookie cutter kids animated movie. It's a love story really, with some serious environmental preaching going on... well preaching may be a bit overstating, but not by much.
Still it was definitely good. Not sure why Fred Willard wasn't animated tho. ------------------------------------------ Looking to escape reality at every turn. |

Last 2 episodes of Season 1 of Moonlight. Enjoyable, well written, but the love story has definitely eclipsed most of the vampy goodness. Hopefully the beginning of a new season will allow a bit more 'monster of the week' action.
Now off to watch some recent Dr Who, courtesy of the bandwidth-blessed friend we stayed the weekend with. ________________________ It's like nobody ever read their Gibbon |

The Bourne Ultimatum. After the second Bourne film, which i thought sucked a fair bit, i had some fears for this one. But damn, this one turned out to be of equal, if not better quality then the first one. Greatness!

Moonlight has been cancelled, so no second season. Apparently, only the first 8 episodes have been shown in Australia, so I don't know if the rest of the season will air there. »» "Forget infinity. I really liked John Leguizamo in that movie. I also like Diary of the Dead. Never saw The Blair Witch Project, so I wasn't burned out on the faux-documentary aspect of Diary. »» "Forget infinity. I thought pretty much the same, although I thought the second was certianly watchable thanks to Karl Urban.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK - loved it! Reminded me so much of the show, especially the opening bit. LF and SL cameos were great too!

I finished reading the comic book an hour before seeing the movie. The graphic novel is so much different/better in a twisted way. The movie is "OK" indeed, but definitely shows how Hollywood can turn the guts of a full-bloodied, immoral story into a "your life, your choice" story (well, they killed a lot of people to prove their point in the movie, but didn't Rambo IV have the same? ;-)] ---- minor bun engine made benny lava |
