Harold and Kumar go to White Castle

Excellent.
I'll watch the sequel as soon as I can.

The X-Files : I Want to Believe

I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
Maybe it's because the critics helped lower my expectations...
It's X-Files. The story is bleak and mysterious, and makes sense in the end.
It's got a few jokes in the middle, and references to past episodes.
Chris Carter really knows how to do bleak (the swimming pool in the middle of nowhere was perfect).
I can only wish for more X-Files movies.

The Invincible Iron Man

This animated movie is the exact opposite of this year's Iron Man live-action movie.
It's pure crap.
Both animation and design stink.
The story is equally lame.
Stark and Rhodes are so unknowingly gay it's not even funny.

The Golden Compass

Disappointing, compared to the book.
I felt that too much of the world-building was left to clever set designs, instead of storytelling.
The story flows way too mechanically, and most of my favourite things from the books are lost.
The characters are turned into archetypes, and lose their soul in the process.

I think someone tried too hard to make the movie fit in the Harry Potter / Narnia slot, instead of spending more time and effort on finding a way to keep the book's spirit alive.

"Rebus" (2000) S02E01-E02

I'm a big fan of the books by Ian Rankin. That series is nearing its end. I thought now I can watch the series.

Always a problem after reading the books, is seeing the series. This series is well done.

Stott is a Scot. However, I think he's a bit too refined to play Rebus. However, he's a good actor of 'a certain age'. Price is not how I imagine Siobhan.

The Hammer - An Adam Carolla vehicle, this turns out to be a pretty funny comedy with a good heart. If you liked Happy Gilmore, you may like this.

Finished the fourth season of The Wire. Damn that show is good. So well put together, paralleling corner drug culture with police and government workings. Really, you've got to check it out. HBO just brings quality in a way few others can.

Return of the Living Dead 3, which I can't really recommend to anyone but diehard zombie fans. I watched most of it on fast forward and felt like that was the best way to go about it. Slow down for nudity or gore.

Down by Law (1986)

Comedy. I actually did not find this film at all funny. I guess that makes it a drama.

B/W filmed in an artistic fashion. Minimal, but adequete sets and props. Some interesting cuts to save film.

Waits was interesting. He has some talent as an actor, and not a hoarse-voiced singer of sad songs. Benigni was not funny. It may be he's too Italian. Barkin was very hot back then. She can be my floozy anytime.

Oh man. You have to take it on its own terms, but I loves them terms.

War (2007)

Action. Jet Li, chop-socky special with Anglo hunk trying to act American. Actually, there were also Americans trying to act Japanese too. It was an AVP-like film between the bad guys: Yakutza and Triads. The Chinese had better hair.

Filming was OK in action-oriented fashion. The fake blood was high quality. Lots of automatic and edged-weapon carnage. Vehicular carnage was unimaginative. Just enought T&A.

Li is just OK by me. Stratham continues to disappoint. I really like Guzmán, however he's doomed to supporting actor-dom. Watch Aoki, she's appearing in lots of edgy productions where exotic Anglo-Asian babes are needed.

just back from Babylon AD.
as a Vin Diesel movie, it was pretty good. lots of growly lines and shit blowing up.
as a sci-fi movie, it could've used a little more time on the explanation.
the end was very sweet though. (i know, a Vin Diesel flick with a sweet ending?)
Vin's showing his age a little too, which is cool.

Wanted came out here this week.
Saw it in the theater on Thursday night
and again this morning on dvd rip [the good russian kind Wink ].

I'm a buying the book.
Other than that, I'm a fool for lovely bishies (namely James McAvoy) and adrenaline films.
Besides the moronic parts, we did enjoy it muchly.

Plus! the bimbo died in the end.

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Excellent.

Dark City : Director's Cut

As good as I remembered.
I didn't notice what the new bits were, though.

I still haven't seen Babylon A.D.

'Vantage Point' - it's flawed, but I enjoyed it a lot. Puzzles are fun. Just wish President Ashton had been in the White House the past 8 years.
