Lithos, in the Dragon Tattoo thread

Sad, but true.

It's just one of the many socially sensitive subjects that get exploited by hack authors and other artists.

Pushbutton themes, as I call them. After the trope of "pushbutton words."

Rape, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, substance abuse, spousal abuse, child abuse, you name something that's awkward and controversial, it's been exploited by some talentless white, middle-class hack, who sincerely doesn't think they're exploiting these subjects; instead, they genuinely think they're the next Gandhi. Sales are attributed to some sort of inherent moral good in the buying public, rather than the truth, which is normally that the books are pretty damn titillating, whether we admit it or not.

James Frey is a fucking genius, by the way. Have not read any of his works. He is surely the modern Hans Christian Anderson.

Oh, wait, Infinity_Circuit - you didn't like my book with the rape scenes in it? You're obviously indifferent to rape, then. You rather it go unreported, so it doesn't cloud your sunny existence which you're lucky to have, you bastard. You obviously don't like it when rape victims are portrayed in a positive light, like in my novel, where the victim is the protagonist.

You insensitive, utter pig.

Shouldn't this topic/thread/subset of the fora be entitled "Impactful Phrases"?

Or "Impacted Phrases"?

Or "Goats On A Bus"?
