For anyone thinking of going there who's not been to a Forbidden Planet signing in London before, and who cares about their books, bring a decent bag. (And an umbrella). They have almost no floorspace, so if there's anything like a decent turnout, you'll be queueing down the street outside (when Terry Pratchett signs the queueing time outside is three to four hours), and if it's raining it can be a problem Smile.

certainly when i happened to be in london at the time of the idoru signing i found myself cueing outside. but then i also bought the book once i got inside, so that saved some hassle.

Typical two signings in London and not one in Scotland

Martin - yup, that's the one. If you ever go to a Terry Pratchett signing there, you get very familiar with the camera shop that you can see on the left hand side of the picture Smile. The setup for big signings is there's a long queue going down the street that way (and, if necessary, round a corner and down some side streets further down) and a nice bloke on the front door lets people into the shop in groups of five or so at a time, who go straight in to a reserved space where the author is signing. That way the store can carry on with normal business for people not there for the signing. I expect since Mr. Gibson's not been around for a while, the turnout will be big enough to merit that kind of treatment.

I went to a Forbidden Planet Neal Stephenson signing a few years back. (This was when "The Diamond Age "had just been published: around 1994 or 1995). On this case I went to Forbidden Planet, and was told that Stephenson was in a nearby pub. I then went to the pub, where he signed my books. (This now seems kind of surreal, but I am sure it is what happened).

Unfortunately I don't think there will be a Dublin event, I mailed Penguin Ireland and got the following -

"....Yes, William Gibson will indeed be coming to Dublin later this month, but
will be primarily doing press interviews for his new novel, Pattern
Recognition.
He will not be doing an event unfortunately. ..."
