Aye. I've got mine. I'm orchestrating a kind of Gibson stalkathon, actually. I plan to attend the Nottingham Waterstone's event, the Congress Centre event, and the Forbidden Planet signing. Crazily. If I can hack the train fair, I'm doing the Birmingham Waterstone's one, too.

My friends tell me that I may require professional help.
But who needs friends.

You know, I'm I nice guy, so *I* went to yell.co.uk, found the FP phone number, rang them, talked to a nice guy from securtiy.

There's no prebooking. It's not a talk, like the Foyles event. A signing. At 1pm. Should you come early to queue? According to other users here, yes. According to the guy on the phone:

"Well, you know, people like that command a bit of a queue, don't they?"

Very Gibson.

I'll be there from about 3am, sitting outside the door in an massively oversized thimble, holding a sign that says 'The End IS Night', and wallpaper pasting newspaper photographs of Gibson to my sticky, sticky body. You?

Curious/ Jesus is dead until easter, and it's a good weekend to be in Dublin (although friday is the only day that we cannot drink in public, saturday brunches in Odessa, Sunday cocktails/dancing in Traffic, any meals in Gotham, all good.)/ Plans? Event averse? Lack of venue? Too early flights back to london?

Time to de-lurk, I think.

Just gearing up for tonight's event in Nottingham, and to be honest I feel a bit guilty. I mean, WG's been touring all over the place for how long now doing the same thing a few nights a week, he must be absolutely sick of it. A few hundred fans hero-worshipping and saying exactly the same things to him in each city. You can say it's all part of the job, but I still feel a few pangs of guilt about being one more of those fans simply wanting a squiggle on a page.

Anyone else know what I mean?

And anyone know if he's a hockey fan? If he's a Canucks fan he might be in high spirits. Maybe I *won't* wear my Maple Leafs shirt tonight, just in case. Wink

Anyway, see some of you tonight. I'll be the guy stood on his own in the yello lego man with afro and kung-fu outfit t-shirt. Yeah, you heard me.

And WG, thanks for going through the hassle. It's much appreciated.

Moge

Just got back from the reading in Nottingham's Waterstones, and enjoyed it quite thoroughly. Shame the floppy haired staff member didn't bother to reposition the mike.

Anyways, it's always nice to enjoy Uncle Bill's dulcet languidities, even if I did chicken-out-and-then-run-out-of-time to ask a question. Next time, though. Tomorrow, in fact.

I'm in with my man up there, feeling a pang of guilt towards Gibson, having to put up with overdressed spikeyhaired fanboys like myself begging for brief interviews and salivating all over the place. It's a shame, I'm usually quite coherent.

Oh, and the obligatory pic:

I hope that interview is pre-recorded, else we're going to get a very short reading tonight. How often is Gibson interviewed on radio in the UK? How on earth do they manage to schedule the interview to be at the same time as one of his rare live appearances?

Hmmm. Good Question. Got my PatRec ARC signed first, then the hardback, then a Neuromancer for my computer parts dealer, then a new copy of Neuromancer for me, since I've loaned my old first copy out to so many people it's dog gone dog eared and dog tired.

Few more pics. Thumbnailed for your viewing pleasure. Click to zoom. Yeah it's blurred.

I'll have a write up of my Gibson-stalking adventure written within the week. And MP3s of a couple of the Q&As, and the interview I was extremely lucky to catch with Mr Gibson after the Birmingham signing.

Now, a drink and a sleep. Spent last night outside Victoria coach station, London, trying not to fall asleep as vulturous circles of contemptibles did that decaying-orbit thing they're so practised at. Until the tubes started again. When I got on one. Quick, like.

Yeah, well. So?

alt.ph.uk or even alt.cyberpunk are much more likely to lead to flame rather than fame.

The link now has some photos from the Forbidden Planet signing as well.

Which of the photos and videos linked to or posted on this discussion board are being used as
steganographic communications channels ?

Was there back in '96, got a signature on Idoru, and agrees totaly. I actually misse dmy flight back to greece and stayed one more day just to meet him, but was worth it. Got a nail as well, besides the singed copy of the book. Remember I waited more that a hour outside. Luckully wasn't raining.

For anyone thinking of going there who's not been to a Forbidden Planet signing in London before, and who cares about their books, bring a decent bag. (And an umbrella). They have almost no floorspace, so if there's anything like a decent turnout, you'll be queueing down the street outside (when Terry Pratchett signs the queueing time outside is three to four hours), and if it's raining it can be a problem Smile.
