Guys, posted a little vid of the signing at Forbidden Planet, London. Not as much footage of Gibson as I'd have liked, but I included some shots of (first) Piccadilly Circus, then Notting Hill.

I asked him if he had a message for all of us anxious for the next blog and this is his reply:

Thanks, Mnemonic!

Looked out for myself in the crowdage, there, but no such fame. Good work, though. Cheers!

Nice little vid Mnemonic. I also really like the way you presented it on the site. What was the music though?

Very funny line: "I've never been foolhardy enough to wear it in Ireland, though, where it would *seem* to mean *something*, though I'm not sure what, and forcefully."

Speaking of Ebay, the owners of the late great Dangerous Visions have a WG collectible up for sale:

Virtual Light Promo Board

Lusted after it a time or two myself, but as I recall, it always seemed too big to take home, and that was at a distance. Size does matter.

P.S. Mnemonic, great vid! Hope I get that good myself someday.

I went to a signing in NY eons ago, I forget which Barnes & Noble. When I got to the table I totally spazzed out and spoke the few words I uttered in a weird, low sexy-snaky voice Smile ; I think I scared the book-store person who stood next to Gibson as an aide Smile.
The reading was not hugely impressive - Mr. Gibson had a soft low key manner of reading.

Thanks, but I'm all hosty now. The problem is getting the camera and USB interface away from Mrs Primate long enough to download the photos.

I'm guessing that you've noticed how her upper body strength has increased proportionately with mini-primate's size. Wrestling tech-toys away from her isn't as easy as it used to be, eh?

Yeah, this whole sexual dimorphism thing isn't working out the way it's supposed to anymore.

Ssorry guys no pics, but...
I just met "the man", and am now a new convert due to the sheer religiousness of the experience. The exact spot... 4th and vine, (vancouver obviously). I stopped and said "you could be a double for William Gibson", he said "yes". I said "thanks for all the books" he said, "and many more". So after several more "benedictions" and "go in peace my son", I picked up the fallen scales from my eyes (could have been these old contacts) and left him swaggering down the street. I didnt want to harrangue him, like those gosh americans are known to. But to spend a few more moments in his presence...illumination.

My, what an experience indeed. Might I ask precisely when this encounter occurred?

Close Encounters of The Gibson Kind...I suppose...I wonder, are you hearing 5 consecutively spaced ringtones now or building your own Devil's Tower shrine on the web?

I saw him around 3:30 that day. Boy, he sure it a lanky guy, probably has writers atypical back pains. Maybe someone could point him at a yoga class...well maybe next time I see him, I offer him my card.

Considering that Chiba is in Japan that is quite a stupid signature. My copy of Neuromancer says:

quote:
The Japanese had already forgotten more neurosurgery than the Chinese had ever known.

So please correct it, as not only is it foolish, it just shows no respect for the original.

Where did you get the quote, a box of cereals?

Names. Numbers. Held as though they might be a map, a map back out of the underground.
