Newromancer, quick question if you will indulge me. I'm running WinXP and wish to switch over to a free anonyomous proxy server. I've gone to Download.com and browsed their programs and they all either seem to suck or cost money...Any suggestions?

The best Proxy's these days seem to be the hardware-net in the WLAN-Routers ... I have no clue what they do differnet, but they rock.

I found my self lucky with WinRoute.pro from Tiny Software ... not freeware, but fair price.
I had some expearence with freeware that came with Debain Linux ... everything worked okay, but had little problems with refreshing and stuff like that ... The only good proxy seems to be the Hardware Routers that preform NAT. ( Doesn't matter if (relative) cheap WLAN Router for at home or Cisco stuff for Work ... the results have allways been great. (In one sentence they work without a single problem.)

I've lost 2 posts today. One was in Random Thoughts / Top Tens and I was able to save it because I was using 'quick reply,' but the other, just now in Neuromancer & Other, I was using the full posting form, so I couldn't retrieve it.

What happens is I compose a post and then when I submit it, I get a 'page unavailable' error like I would if the board was down, and then the post doesn't post. With 'quick reply' I could use the back button and reload and it would resend the info. Somehow I couldn't talk it into it with the full form.

It's not that big a deal for me because I tend to compost posts outside of the browser and then paste them, but I didn't do that this time, and I don't really feel like re-typing my post and finding the links again.

Your best bet might be to copy your text before submitting it, so
if you have to do it again, it's still there.

What happened, I used to have the permission set that allowed me to use a custom avatar URL, but now I can't. Please rectify.

And Marshdrifter's kludge seems to not work for me.

Oops, and the *BANG* it did work. Still, something's broken and still needs fixing.

For some reason, you are (still) able to login with guest status on the PR forum. Actually it's incredibly easy to do it by mistake. Push reply without being logged-on and it's begging you to do it. Before the new UI you could post as a guest simply by not typing your password.

It happened to me, a couple times... reply was credited to <fuldog>, no post count, no register date, and can't recall what I did/didn't do for this to happen. But lately, if trying to reply and telling I'm not registered, it redirects me to the 'new member' page. Meh. No chances for multi-headed shenanigans...

Hey, are these <nick> posts deletable? I just noticed that when plastic purged himself from the board he missed those ones.

There should be no underscore in that URL. There is no underscore now, as I type. But when I try to post, an underscore is inserted between non and errors, which breaks the URL. That drives me right_up_the_wall!

I've got a slight problem.

At one time I was able to link directly to my own avatar. Now, suddenly, I am unable to do so. Was I moderated for some reason/infraction of which I am unaware? I have a handy-dandy avatar now, but can't link to it.

Now, more than ever, I wish I could have a checking account and do exactly what SC just suggested.

Only "problem" would be knowing where to send the check, though.

Incidentally, I tried Marshdrifter's alternate method of getting my own custom avatar up, but it didn't work. ::shrugs:: No big deal, really.
