I'm fairly certain that affiliate links to Amazon only pay the affiliate if a product is bought. (cbarreto, were you missing an "only" in your sentence above?).

Anyway, why does this have to be characterized as a "scam," sweetums?

But... that's the *handle*.

Though it does bring 1971's Henson special, "The Frog Prince" to mind. "Sweetums lay your ugly head / Down upon your wretched bed..."

I find this eve/groupee thing so frustrating!

I'm using firefox (latest version) on OSX 10.3.9 or something like that, popup blocker is disabled for this site, and there are no cursor whatnots to say what the heck any of the unidentified buttons are--I found quick-reply entirely by chance--and the "add buddy" feature is utterly nonfunctional. I thought PMs were disabled until I was reading through here and tried going through Safari.

I also haven't figured out how to access only the new posts in threads I've already opened...there are two seemingly nonfunctional icons to the left of each thread, teasing me and telling me there are new posts in one case, doing nothing in another (ETA: it does do something...it takes me back to February 2005 o_O). Just now I tend to use page numbers and hope I remember correctly >_<

I'm Mac at home, PC at work, and firefox for the lion's share of browsing at both because I loathe IE and Safari tends to crash on me when in IPB message boards.

Sorry, just venting, but while the people are lovely, the board functionality is pretty crap IMHO. Help helps not, either.

Also, is there a minimum post count for gallery functionality? I've seen people talking about them in here but I had no idea they existed. I don't actually need one, I'm just trying to find my way around here.

Smile

There's personal Messaging here?

Anyhow, to get to the latest posts in a thread, I've always just accessed the most recent post from the appropriate thread, and if interested, works backwards till I got bored or recognized something I'd already read. Do you really want to trust cyber-cookies?

Gallery functionality? I dunno, they stopped working for me completely since the upgrade to that flash9 nonsense (and I keep reminding tiger68 about it too).

Anyhow, I like simple(ish) boards. Though not to say I approve of how Groupee did any of this stuff....

I do trust the cookies, most of the time!

Big Grin

The only problem with the backwards methodology is that, well, it's backwards. LOL

It's not the end of the world, it's just me crossing my eyes now and then.

*shrugs*

*has another glass of wine*

Cheers!

Martin, one thing to try is to upgrade to the latest/greatest Flash version. I don't think WGB has PM turned on so that menu item is worthless. (Aitapata Said So.)

theminx, is a "cursor whatnot" a yellow hovering help tag? I actually DO get those in Safari--it's a long pause though. Haven't tried Firefox 2.07 to see if the same applied for it.

As for "New Since Last Visit", it is located under the Find menu, and it filters EVERYTHING on the WGB that is new (ie, not just Random Thoughts).

The "rolodex" PAGE inside the leftmost icon will turn yellow if there is new content since your last visit to that thread. The other icon is the type of thread and every single one of ours appears to be "Discussion Thread". I suppose there could also be announcements and so forth. Clicking the discussion icon just takes you to post 1 of that thread.

DOUBLE EDIT: The "new" features only work if you are allowing groupee to store cookies, I think? I just quit Safari (I have the cookies folder set to read-only so they are all "session-only") and now everything says it's new. So you should maybe investigate allowing all cookies from groupee or wgb in Firefox? There must be some cookie you are missing.

Hey, heavyboots Smile

Yes, I only get the yellow cursor whatnots on some items, not on others, in Firefox.

I will try out the find new feature; I seem to have been spoiled by having that thread by thread on other boards. Who knew?!

Thanks for your help!

Heh. It could be worse--it could be a WebCrossing forum. Good lord, the Adobe forums haven't worked in any meaningful sense for about 2 weeks now since they did an "upgrade". Eek

Heh. Web2.0 is a virus....

I'm tired of having to always upgrade to the latest and supposewdly greatest. What was wrong with the way before? And now, the bad guys are able to spread hacks and malware through flash animations. Phooey. Shit I don't need. I don't want to play their game anymore. Let me know when content is again avilable through non-proprietary software....

The wall I keep running into is that, sure, we can all do the digital equivalent of putting our fingers in our ears, humming and looking the other way, or we can realize that this is a very real community, online and off, and that it's okay to admit that standards of acceptable behavior exist here. Is silence consent? Not exactly, but in this particular case, what with the John Hinkley-esque passage that MOM quoted above (among others), I think that ignoring it is a mistake. Quietly showing him the door, and locking it behind him, will lighten the oppressive atmosphere he's created, and hopefully send him a message that he's crossed a line. And that there are consequences resulting from his own behavior (though honestly, I still think he won't get it).

MOM, thanks for seconding me.

tiger, thanks for hearing me out. Any word on action?

The perp has been ushered out.

Thanks T. I had blocked CB some time ago and until today when Aitapata told me about this action I didn't know you had taken him out.

Janos used to make threats but at least he had some redeeming qualities, like leaving of his own accord.

Sloane thanks for bringing this to the admin, I don't think you are sensitive at all if that makes you feel better.

Striv would like me to inform tiger68 of the fact that she can't log into the WGB anymore. The login page keeps timing out on her, even though she can browse the rest of the board (obviously while nog being logged in) just fine. She can apparently also load into other groupee message boards just fine.

So yeah. I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about it (sounds like a local problem that'll just pass in time) but i fear withdrawel shakes are setting in and it makes her upset, so i'm posting it nevertheless!
